Yorkie 1 year old today, still hasn't gone into heat Is this normal? Our 1 year old hasn't gone into heat yet. I'm just worried since she is a year old. Is this normal? |
No it's NOT normal, they usually come into heat 6, 7 sometimes as late as 8 months old. Is it possible she was in heat and you didn't notice it? If you're SURE she has NEVER gone into heat I suggest you take her to your vet. |

Please update us after the vet visit. Are you planning to breed her and the reason she has not been spayed. |

Yes, I planned to breed her. I had been reading and I read that if by 14 months the dog hasn't gone into heat to have her checked. It sure seemed like a long time. I am new to owning a yorkie. Whenever they're in heat, is there normally a small amount of blood? |
I have had 4 female yorkies all now passed, my first two I did not have spayed my last two I had spayed, I was not planning on breeding, just didn't want them to go under the knife so to say, they died horrible deaths, at ages 10 and 14 they got pyometra their uterus was filled with puss and erupted, a full hysterectomy did not save their lives. Those two girls came into heat at 6 1/2 months old, as adults they did not bleed a lot, I knew exactly when they would be coming into heat as I always marked it on my calendar and they were right on the mark, every 6 months. Sometimes it's clearish pink in color, reason I asked if it's possible she came in heat and you just didn't notice, some ppl think they bleed a lot, some do, mine did not. My girls were not little, both weighed 13 pounds. Best to take her to the vet, always better safe then sorry. |

I would recommend spaying this kiddo and loving her as a spoiled pet; don't make her have a litter / go thru a birth. Hope everything goes well at the vet - keep us posted :). |
Just go ahead and get her fixed no need to breed. |
