Simparica (flea/tick oral medication) Anyone use it? My vet, who I trust wholeheartedly, said she's been really liking this medication. She was perfectly fine with me continuing Nexgard but said this one protects against more ticks and kills them faster. Simparica: What is Simparica (sarolaner) monthly chewable? I ordered a 3-pack to try with Jackson and Lola to see if it keeps the ticks away. We haven't been giving flea/tick meds since November (even though we've had a pretty mild winter) and haven't been seeing any ticks thankfully but I know I usually start them up on it again in March so it was time to order some. He's on Heartguard year round for heartworm. Also, it's a *tad* cheaper than Nexgard. |
My vet started Cody onSimparica this past July. I have always used Frontline on all my dogs with great results. I cannot compare Simparica to Frontline because my dogs never had fleas or ticks when on Frontline. Can only say Simparica is a chewable so it's an easy do. I stop flea / tick protection when temps stay a steady below 50 degrees usually November. |
Let us or me know how it works! I don't really have a big tick problem at our house since we moved four years ago but I want to start taking Joey to socialize him to dog parks this spring so ticks might be an issue. |

Jackson is going to FL with me sometime in March where it'll be warmer so that'll be a good test. |

Simparica is a better product then Nexgard because it lasts 35 day. It ha a faster speed of kill than Nexgard and Bravecto. Topical flea and tick products are becoming obsolete. If you are a known seizure patient than orals are not recommended. |
Just a small update. No side effects for Jackson or Lola. Have had no ticks at all and it's been warm here. So far so good. |
Feb. we had temps in the 70's, I started Cody on the Simparica because we found a new park with trails in a heavily wooded area many trees and tons of leaves on the ground, ticks LOVE leaves, he had no side affects and no ticks. I must add, Cody weighs 12 pounds, I buy the 11 to 20 pound pack. I just ordered 2, 3 in a pack from Pet Meds, with a 20 % off and free shipping making it a nice savings. They did have to contact my vet to verify this is what he was on. |
How does the price compare to Nexguard???? |
I never used Nexguard, don't know their cost. Simparica price depends on the dose, they have 3-6 pounds, 6-11 and I bought 11-22 pounds. My vet was selling 2, 3 in a pack for $111. I checked Pet Meds, they were selling 2, 3 in a pack for $88.98 with 20% off. My cost was $71.19 plus free shipping. |

Pet Meds for 3 was $44.50. I always buy a 6 month supply. |

That sounds more right. It's $101 from my vet for a 6 month supply. |
My concern is my yorkie is 10 years old. She had seizures And is on medication. I have used Advantix and Frontline but it such a mess. Is there an oral medication she can safely take? |
