Inhaler for Yorkie Anyone use an inhaler for their pup? Chewie is so sensitive to weather changes. If it starts to get our typical dry Santa Ana winds he starts coughing/honking. He's been checked for CT and is clear. OTC antihistamines don't seem to be very effective. I'm wondering if an inhaler would ease his irritation???? |
He could have enviro allergies - very common in yorkies for sure. OTC's rarely work. Read this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html |

Have you talked to your vet bout his issues? |

I had a little poodle (she has since passed on) diagnosed with chronic allergic bronchitis, which is similar to asthma in humans. She was prescribed a Flovent inhaler, which is a human asthma medication, and she was on it for the last five years of her life. We used an aero chamber (made by aero-dawg) to administer the inhaler. The inhaler required a prescription from our vet and was very expensive. I couldn't afford the medication in the states, so I purchased it from a Canadian pharmacy but it still required a prescription from my vet. It also took a LOT of training in order for her to use it properly. Starting a medication like that is not something to be taken lightly, and she needed very regular monitoring and blood work. It is definitely something that would require the cooperation and advice of your vet. Diana |

The only meds that seem to actually work are Atopica, Apoquel, Temaril-P, and steroids. I don't really think it's great for a dog to try to treat the breathing issue - you should treat the issue way before that would ever happen - which is where Atopica and Apoquel come in. |
