Yorkie likes to eat cat food better than her own! I am new here and new to being a Yorkie owner. I have a cat who is diabetic and must eat canned cat food with low carbs and my Yorkie sneaks and eats it if he leaves any in his bowl...I also have 2 female cats that are non diabetic and sometimes she gets a few of their dry as well if they leave it..She seems to like the dry cat food much better than the dry dog food. I don't know why and I am wondering if this will hurt her. NO I do not feed it to her as a rule...She gets canned dog food 2x a day and I try to give her some dry dog food for treats or if she seems hungry during the day but this she is not very good about eating the dry dog food at all and she doesn't get extra food very often from me, but she does sneak and eat the leftover cat food...Hope there is nothing to be concerned about because it is going to be a very hard habit to break her of I think....Thanks to anyone who can help me out Have a good day:) |
Would the cat mind if you put her food up on a counter or such? I like how my yorkies can't get to things on tables or counters like our bigger dogs could. |
Consider yourself lucky, mine prefer cat poo. The litter box is renamed as the snack box. Ewwwww! |
The best thing to do is to compare the nutritional analysis on the cat kibble bag and the dog kibble bag to see what your differences really are, first.... |
I will do the comparison, Wylie's mom and I know what you are saying kjc, my Lab used to do that I had to make a huge covered tub that his big head couldn't fit in but the cats still could lol (Sam used to go outdoors but now no longer so we do now have one uncovered :p) !!! ritapatt... Sam is kind of a chubster and an older guy (the diabetic one, we think he has Feline Acromegaly... a benign tumor on his pituitary gland that makes him keep growing indefinitely and also gives them the diabetes  ) So idk if he wouldn't be able to get up there to eat (he eats a lot of times a day with his condition) and the 2 girls I try to keep OFF the counters lol so probably not a good choice! Thanks though to ALL for all suggestions :):aimeeyork |

I think the main difference is taurine. Cats need it and dogs not so much. It would be worse for a cat to eat dog food exclusively, than for a dog to eat cat food occasionally. |

We've also had to barrier off the cat feeder, as she would be constantly at that, too. Makes our house sound a bit like Colditz, but needs must! On the subject of eating cat food, the article below is really good! Dogs that eat cat food - Is this really a problem? | Pets4Homes |
