Redness around nails and under paws 2 Attachment(s) Hello All, My :aimeeyork Yuna is almost 7 year olds and seems to have developed skin issues around her paws for past few months. I've brought her to the vet and have given her a variety of medicine (listed below). She also has thickness of yellow buildup right under her nails (see pictures attached). She doesn't walk outside much in the winter so the salt isn't the issue. Pills: Benadryl, Apoquel Ointment: Isaderm gel, Surolan, Aurizon (ear medicine but can be used as on infection) Apoquel, I gave her one night and she was completely passed out which I was not warned about. I googled the medicine and there are variety of articles about the bad side effects. I stopped giving it to her Isaderm seems to sting her. Aurizon worked but stopped working after a while. Surolan doesn't seem to work. Also want to note that she also has an ear infection which keeps coming back. The vet gave me alcohol based ear wash which completely dried her ear out. I hated it. I ended up getting tropiclean ear wash which seems to help and doesn't dry her ears out. She eats veterinary diet (canned and kibble) called urinary so since she also has UTI issues. I don't know if she just developing an allergy to it. She's also a very picky eater. I also incorporated fortiflora probiotic into her diet to help balance her immune system. I don't want to give her any more medicine. Feel terrible giving her so much. I was looking into Licks Skin and Allergy (link below). I read up reviews and it seems promising. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this issue and what kind of natural remedies worked for your furbabies :animal-pa. https://www.lickspillfree.com/produc...gy-shiny-coat/ |

Apoquel is actually a pretty safe drug compared to other allergy meds I would try it more then once before thing that is what made her tired. Have they checked for yeast? Have you done any paw soaks? What is the vet saying the issue is? |

Please please please put this poor kiddo back on the Apoquel ASAP. Every single solitary medication out there has bad side effects to read about if you just google them. Thousands upon thousands of dogs are on either Apoquel or Atopica and do incredibly well (my Marcel has been on both, is now using Apoquel...he weighs 4 pounds). Your poor dog's allergy condition looks miserable - and when quality of life is as such - you need to give medication. If they're tired at first, who cares...? Let them be tired - that will get better. Just give this kiddo some relief, fast, before things get even worse. You need to have the paw issue sampled and grown in culture as this could be yeast or something else. If it's yeast, Apoquel and the other meds you're giving will absolutely nothing to help...nothing at all. You'd need an oral anti-fungal, most likely for up to 6 weeks. I would not give that product you linked to - it will not help. When skin issues and ear issues recur like this - you truly NEED to rule-out thyroid issues and Cushings disease. Vet said it was allergies but I don't think he seen the yellow build up under her paw. I'll give apoquel another try. I hope it works. |

Thanks for commenting on the licks product, I'll go return it at the pet store. I was just so wary of giving her so much medicine. I love that this site is available to be able to get comfort with other yorkie owners and get advice from them. I have thought of cushings disease previously and vet said it could be a potential but have not done thorough testing. I looked up the symptoms and she also has a pot belly look to her. I really hope its not the case. I'll get some testing done. |

If thinking Cushings (my Wylie has had it for 8 yrs now), the first test is the Cortisol-Creatinine Ratio Urine Test. Good overview on Cushings: Cushings (Hyperadrenocorticism) | | Long Beach Animal Hospital |
