Carrots Are carrots good treats for Yorkies? I have tried to give him low calorie treats as he is a little heavy. Vet says he can have one baby one a day but he also has gas every time I take him in. Should I cook them first so he can digest them better, or just give him green beans only. Also is celery allowed? I slice the celery into shall pieces and he loves it. Any ideas? |

I've heard others who use carrots and peas as treats. But, I read somewhere that they don't actually digest it well so you may see the entire piece come back out in the poop. I say...if your pup can take it without any effects, go for it. But if he gets gas etc, you can consider something else :) For treats, my little ones eat Merrick's Lamb Lung fillets! They love it! And I love it because it doesn't get messy :p I usually break them into tiny pieces, the size of my pinky nail. I realize they don't care how big the piece is, but rather how many times they get a treat lol |

My babies LOVE green beans, broccoli , cauliflower, apples & carrots. I usually steam the broccoli & the cauliflower & the instant they smell them cooking they start doing the happy dance. Raw carrots , because they don't digest actually help to express the anal glands much like raw bones for canines in the wild. Also, it could be her food causing the gas & not the carrots. She may benefit from a good Pro-Biotic. |
I was told by a dog trainer not to give the small mini carrots because they are chemically grown to be that size. She said use only the large carrots and cut lengthwise if necessary. That might be the cause of the gas in your little one. Something to think about anyway. |

FROM g3wrf-- green vegitation is one of the things that dogs used to eat when in the wild, Millie my 8yr old yorkie that i have rescued just loves them cooked, makes a great treat for them, never looked back, hope your little one stays with you for a long time. my kind regards to you-----Tony uk |
