absence testicle neutering ? $1500 :O Hey yorkie mamas, I know some have probably seen my previous post in reference to my baby max having an absence testicle. Now i was aware that this could even happen as my first dog is almost 3yrs and it was a female. Im still a "newbie" inthis. I had a visit at the vet today to extract two of max's baby tooth that were still in. Welll i had previously mentioned that he did take a feel around and stated he couldnt feel the 2nd testicles. Well today when i asked for estimate of how much this surgery would cost me , he said about $1500. Is this estimate correct? or is absurd?. please advise. Has anyone done this procedure before? Max will be turning 2 yrs old january 26. |
For an undescended testicle, this isn't unreasonable. It's abdominal surgery, after all, not just a basic neuter. Make SURE you go home w/ pain meds and a pain plan for when/if the pain is not being managed properly. |
You're in NY, everything is more expensive in NY. When I lived in NY I had a summer home here in Pa. where I now live. I needed a vet in Pa. for "just in case" anything happened while I was not at home. I found a GREAT vet, her prices we 1/2 of what they charged in NY. Summers I would have all my pups teeth cleaned by her, 3 pups for the price of one pup in NY. Prices vary from state to state. I am still using this vet, 30 + years now. |
As Matese indicated, the cost is likely because you are in New York. I live near Washington, DC and vet costs are much higher in the city for neuter/spay than 50 miles out in the suburbs. Almost double. The vets in the city are usually paying more a lot more for their office space and staff. |

That's pretty outrageous so far as cost but I'm in texas, not New York. I imagine everything is much more expensive there. I had a 5 month old male puppy neutered who had one undescended testicle and paid less than $300. That's pretty standard for a spay or neuter at most vets offices in the dallas area. |
I don't live in New York City, but I know my veterinarian in Westhampton would most likely be a fraction of that amount. He is excellent, and he has many clients from Manhattan. You could call Animal Medical Center, a specialty hospital in Manhattan, that is nonprofit organization and ask them. About AMC - Animal Medical Center - New York City |
Could it be possible that after almost one year of his surgery, the descended testicle has appeared? Today I was laying with Max and rubbing on his tummy , when I felt a little flat ball the same feel/testure of the one testicle he had. I called my vet and unfortunately they were booked for the next 2 weeks and I would have to walk in as an emergency and probably spend my day there waiting to be seen. My dog was spayed by ASPCA were I payed $125 as opposed to $1500 my vet was charging, (I was in a very difficult financial hardship then when I decided to contact ASPCA and book an appointment, please don't judge) and the crypto surgery was performed. He had two incisions when I picked him up. Now, I feel this movable ball on his abdomen by his left bottom leg and Im uncertain if he was really neutered. Of course I am going to the vet on Saturday to have some x-rays done and figure if this is what I assumed it is or if its something else. Anybody heard of this before ? |
