Fleas won't go away! Hi all, I have a flea problem which doesn't seem to go away. I have never had a problem with fleas and this is the first time I'm experiencing this situation. My yorkie is 3 and about 1 month ago I noticed she had 3 fleas near her eye area. That day I washed her with dawn and everything was fine for 2 weeks until I saw fleas... again. This time, I used a flea shampoo. Now, 2 weeks later she has started to itch again but I don't see any signs of fleas. I'm not sure what to do or what is going on but I can't take this anymore  Advice???? :( |
You have to seriously clean your home because eggs and larvea can be in blankets, couches, carpets and so on. |
Defleaing the house is a days job. You can get spray for the furniture & carpets at Petco, Petsmart OR your vet & it's not cheap. When you spray you have to spray the whole carpets including under ALL furniture such as beds, dressers, sofas & so on, so be sure to purchase plenty of cans because you will use them all & then some. Read the can carefully & IF it says to spray again in 2 wks, don't go a day over & wash all dog bedding & spray that too. Home Depot has stuff to treat your yard & you must do the house & yard at the same time or it will not work. |
Unfortunately, as was stated above- getting rid of fleas is a big deal and requires a thorough job done all at once. They are like head lice but worse. Wash and dry all bedding in hot, spray a permethrin/pyrethrin based product on all hanging drapes, couches- things you can't wash. Shake the permethrin powder into your carpets, scrub it in with a broom, vaccuum it up after it sets a bit, spray the yard with the liquid, bathe your dog and then apply a lasting flea treatment. Make sure any other animals in the house are treated also. Do not leave a stone unturned and don't do it over a period of days, it has to all be done at once. |
