Help. Lola has not stopped chewing and licking her back right paw since we got her back from her board and training ( only been 24 hours). When we got her she was scratching herself all over non stop and chewing that back paw. We bathe her soon as we got home, no fleas or ticks were found. She was scratching this morning, so I coated her fur with coconut oil and it seemed too work but she's still chewing and licking that paw. I don't see anything wrong with it but I don't want it to get worst. What can I do to help her with this? I prefer home remedies, please. I currently have coconut oil and lavender but will stop by the store if I need too. Thanks! |
Sometimes fleas can be really hard to find. There can be one with no evidence of bites or flea "dirt." Keep checking her closely. Teddy recently went through a paw chewing thing for about 3 days and I couldn't find anything. Then he quit. Try washing the paw a couple more times. Factor in that coconut oil may attract her to chew and lick some more because it the oil is yummy. |
She could've gotten stung in the paw by something, causing pain (but nothing visible) at the paw, and a histamine reaction elsewhere. If still itching today, I'd give some Benadryl at a dose of 2mg/pound. |
Thank you for your replies! I ended up calling the vet and she suggested to give her Benadryl and it's really helped! |
If this continues I would be looking into a food change as it may be food allergies. |
