Ringworm OR Vaccine Reaction? 4 Attachment(s) Hi guys, I'm a long time dog owner, but 1st time Yorkie owner. I have never had a dog with ringworm, so I'm not sure if this is ringworm or not. My Yorkie is 4.5lbs (5lbs on a "fat" day) and just turned 5 yrs old. On Sept. 24 (so about 3 weeks ago) she got her rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations. 4 days ago, I was petting her and felt a sizable scab on her shoulder. I looked at it, and it looked like a crusty scab, but I was semi-scared that it could be ringworm. I decided to wait a few days before taking her in to the vet. The lesion or scab or whatever you want to call it has not changed. Then it struck me that the location of the scab is just about where she had her rabies vaccine 3 weeks ago. Has anyone had experience with post rabies shot allergic reactions? Or maybe ringworm experience? Hair is still growing through the lesion, but I trimmed it so that I could better see the scab/lesion. No pus. Just looks really dry and crusty. Any help/advice/comment is greatly appreciated. Thanks! 2 of the pictures are from last night (taken indoors w/flash); 2 of the pictures were taken outside in natural daylight this morning. |
I would go ahead and have the vet take a look. |
Could easily be rabies vaccine induced vasculitis if that is the area they gave the shot. |
It doesn't look like ringworm to me, but I don't know for sure! Actually, I too, think it is probably from the vaccine. I would take her to the vet anyway to get checked, they should note it in her chart for future reference if it is vaccine related. Just as an aside you might want to read the sticky at the top of this page about vaccines. Thanks I think to Wylie's mom? for all that information (I donate yearly to Dr Dodds rabies challenge fund). Especially for a small dog, they really should separate all the vaccines out, the rabies should be given at least 3 weeks before, or after the parvo/distemper vaccine, just to be safe with their little bodies. You just have to ask, hopefully they don't make you insist ;) When I had my first little dog I took her to the vet for deworming when she was 2-3 pounds. Before I could stop the vet she gave her a shot of the dewormer! Thick and painful, and horribly old school even for big dogs. There was no reason to do it, especially for a small dog... Of course I never went back, but it scabbed up, and the hair never grew back in that area (almost dime sized). It wasn't the end of the world, but if they can possibly avoid it, why not? Has she tried to scratch it? |
