Stomach Noises Hi l am new here. My eight-year-old Roxie has been having terrible stomach gurgling noises for the past nine months. I cannot even describe the loud squeaking, crying noises that her stomach makes in the middle of the night which wakes me up from a sound sleep. After several trips to the vet and tests and bloodwork and changing different dog foods, they are not sure what it is. I am now cooking her chicken, rice, and carrots which I give her for breakfast and lunch and I am giving her Science Diet ID canned for dinner. The vet recommended giving her a teaspoon of Dimetapp when her stomach starts making the noises. But this last week her stomach has been upset every single night. I am considering stopping the Science Diet and just feeding her the homemade chicken and rice and carrots three times a day. Has anyone else heard the terrible stomach noises from their Yorky? Any suggestions? She is in such pain when her stomach acts like that. She will not eat and she just lays there. The Dimetapp works in about 10 minutes and she has relief and then she will eat her food. But I don't like giving her medicine! |
First, I'd stop the carrots immediately as they can cause looser stools in many dogs. Try feeding just some chicken and rice for a week and see what happens. What Science Diet are you using? Has she been tested for giardia? More than once? Have you started probiotics yet? |
Thanks for the tip about the carrots! I did not realize they could cause loose bowels which I have been noticing. She has been tested for everything. Including a complete blood panel test twice and everything came back negative. I have not tried probiotics yet but I was going to call the vet today and ask them about it. She was eating the canned version of science diet ID digestive care with turkey. Thank you very much for your suggestions! |
For probiotics, I'd recommend those by Natures Farmacy - they're excellent! The 8 oz size would last you FOREVER. :) |
Sounds your dog have a upset stomach or in other words sensitive stomach. Carot can help your dog situation and brown rice. Before that is one of the easy treatment that can help your dogs. But if you found out that this is not working try to read this article about food to give for sensitive stomach this is very helpful for me so it will help your situation too since we have both situation. |
Thanks for all the help! I have been giving Roxie a tablespoon of yogurt at 11 PM and also some probiotics with her dinner. We have had two nights of a quiet stomach! Hallelujah! I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end of her stomach problems! Thanks for all the suggestions! |
