Here is an update.

Tootsy went in for her scan today and they had to sedate her as she was so terrified. They had a good look around and found that she has a very small cyst on her kidney and the kidneys seem, perhaps, a little bigger than usual, but not much. Her liver looks healthy, but possibly a little large for her size. The adrenals look normal but, once again, seemed a little large for her size. They said that they normally have difficulty finding the adrenals, in order to scan them. However, in Tootsy's case, they found the adrenals straight away. The measurements of all these organs falls within the normal range for dogs, but the vet says that, obviously, dogs differ in sizes and Tootsy is small so they feel she should be on the small side of the normal range.

I am very relieved that they did not find cancer. PHEW! What a blessing

The vet still thinks that it may be Pituatary gland tumour causing cushings. She is going to wait for the SHAP results and discuss it with us again. She said she is a bit puzzled by the normal UC/CRR result and will discuss this with the lab.

Little Toots is still sleepy and confused, so I have popped her into her bed for the afternoon and she is now sound asleep. When we were getting ready to take her this morning, she knew, somehow, that we were going to the vet. When we got to our front door, she dug her heels in and refused to move. My hubby had to pick her up and found that she was already starting to shake. We had not even got to the car yet! By the time we arrived at the vet. hospital, she was a wreck - she was shaking so much it was hard to hold her - and panting and crying too. We were both very upset to see her like this - you feel like a traitor handing her over to the nurse! Her eyes were full of terror and she even 'asked' us to put her lead on. This is unususl, as she likes to be free of the lead. We presume she thought that, if we put her lead on, we would go home. As my hubby said, it is worse than when we took our children to the hospital. At least you can explain things to them and reassure them.

I will do another update when I have the results of the SHAP blood test.

Hi Yvonee - I know *exactly* how you feel handing them off at the vet, believe me!! And yep, 1/2 of it is from not being able to explain to them what's happening, and that you'll be back.

I'm so glad she was able to have the scans done though - and that news is good!

I'm really now wondering if she has Atypical Cushings like my Wylie does...

I am so pleased that you understand how we feel - I feel like a neurotic owner at times.

Toots is very clingy today and I am having to hold her in my arms and type with one finger! I'ts not easy, but her crying to be picked up is worse - ha! ha! She seems to have a tummy upset today. My hubby wonders if it is due to the sedative, but I have never heard of a sedative giving you an upset tummy. I believe that an upset tummy is also a sign of cushings. I must read up about Atypical cushings.

Another update:

The vet phoned today and told me that all the tests have come back as normal and so Tootsy doesn't have Cushings. She says it is probably just old age, but that she will be doing another set of blood tests in three months.

Tootsy has been a lot better this week. She has not been sleeping so much, or drinking quite as much, as last week.

I am relieved that she doesn't think that Toots has Cushings, but I can't help still feeling a little uneasy. At least she is brighter and doing more, so I am thankful for this - perhaps it was nothing serious?
