Stress and IBD? I was told by my vet that our digestive systems, meaning canines and humans, are very similar. I could get into a spiel, but let's just say I understand IBD personally. While we are similar, can a yorkie experience side effects like we do with stress? Chewie seems to have these bouts anytime something big happens. I'm thinking back and realizing that one of her worst bouts was with that terrible groomer. I'm asking the vet on tuesday, but want to know any personal experience. |
Definitely there can be a correlation. Of course, stress impacts health in general by weakening the immune system, among other things. Teddy has had diarrhea on a couple of occasions that I think was caused by his fear of storms. Whenever I am stressed, I try to hide it from the pups because I know it stresses them. These little ones are so in tune with us. We can't even have a serious discussion about any subject without the pups trying to 'comfort' us. We have to interject things like "right, puppy?" in a happy voice to try to trick them. |
There is a difference between IBD and stress colitis. I had a pup years ago who would get stress colitis from riding in the car...she would have diarrhea with bright red blood at the end. |

My girl has IBD but it's more related to food allergies with dogs that's what generally causes it to act up. |
Yes, stress can most def affect the GI, in both humans and dogs. |
Can someone tell me the best food to feed. He is very picky and high strung. Has had several bouts of diarrhea and horrible gas. HELP |
