Acana for Yorkie Puppies I'm changing my 4 mon old Yorkie to Acana. She is almost 3 pounds. I feel like if I feed the suggested amount on the bag she might pop! Anyone else feeding their puppy Acana??? How much are you feeding? Any advise would be appreciated!!! |
The label is just a recommendation so I would start with that and your puppy will tell you when enough is enough because they won't eat it all if its too much. If they do, then you know the label is enough and split the recommendation in half over to feed once at night and once in the day. Hope that helps? |
Thanks for the help! |
My Vet gave me the formula for resting energy requirements for a yorkie or it might be for all dogs in general. The formula is 70* weight in kg to the 0.75 power. Take that alnumber and multiple it by 3 if your dog is 4 months old or less or multiple it by 2 if they're older than 4 months old. This gives you the daily calories needed for your dog. Then on the dog food bag it will say how many calories are in cup of dog food or I do it by how many grams have a certain amount of calories. I weigh out the amount that will give my dog his daily calorie intake and split that up into three portions. I feed my guy three times a day. If you're giving a lot of snacks subtract those calories from the amount of food you give him. This will give you the most specific amount of calories your dog needs. |
Thank you so much!! I'm going to do this right now. I sure wish Acana would make a small breed puppy food in the us. |
