Pickiest EATER ON EARTH. PLEASE HELP Hi all, Sebastian got colitis which turned into pancreatitis from being fed by an idiot "beggin (bacon) strip" for dogs. Ever since this, which had him hospitalized for 2 days on fluids and prescribed metronidazole for 10days, he's been uninterested in his FOOD! He will maybe eat up to 5oz of food a day. He went from eating 3+ times a day and asking for seconds to sniffing get his food and walking the other way. I am so worried and need some thoughts from my fellow yorkie parents. What would you do besides take him to the vet? We have a follow up Monday. Do you think it's the medication, metronidazole? He's still drinking water. Please send me your thoughts ::confused::(:(( |
Is he eating nothing at all? Or just less than before. As long as he is having at least one decent sized meal and drinking then I wouldn't be concerned. |
Hello sorry for the reason that brings you here. One of my dog before is picky eater too! Since he is at puppy stage it's so hard for me to find the best food for him until my searching end in this helpful site that tells about the best meals for sensitive stomach because one of the reason that they become picky eater because of their uppset stomach don't like the food that you give to them, and their body not consume the right nutrients that they need. In other words your dog too has a sensitive stomach. Hope this information will help you with your problem. |
It could be the Metro. But how much does he weigh bc 5oz of food can be way more than plenty for many yorkies...just depends on weight. |
Thank you! Hi all, He's 6.8lbs, 9.5years old is on a customized food plan which includes beef or beef heart, oats, eggs, fish (tilapia), pumpkin, beets, apples, blueberries, cranberry. It comes frozen and he loved it before getting sick:( he went from 3 meals a day to 5oz. I stopped the medication last night to see if it's the metro that is upsetting get his tummy. I read it was in fact a side affects. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much yorkie parents!:( |
Don't be so hard on yourself! Pancreatitis can occur even if you are feeding the same foods day in and day out. Yes, it could have been because of the treats, but it isn't like you knew he would get that sick. Lesson learned and hopefully without any long lasting issues for him. Usually pancreatitis lasts longer than a couple of days. He may still be uncomfortable. I would not worry too much unless he stops eating and drinking and is acting like he is in pain and/or vomiting. Have you tried rice and boiled chicken? He might like that. |

I would think he might benefit from one of them...but, you should ask the vet. Also, when he was diagnosed, what blood work was done and has it been repeated for comparison?? He may still be sick from that! They don't just return back to normal that quickly. Pancreatitis is a very serious thing and makes them very sick. http://www.marvistavet.com/canine-pancreatitis.pml |
Also, they usually give them something for pain and also for the nausea and vomiting. You may want to ask about that. |
Update on Sebastian Wastian Dear all, After stopping the metronidazole, Sebastian now has his appetite back❤. It took 1.5 days and as soon as he could he asked mama for some food. I was so happy at the 3rd meal that I actually cried of pure joy! Sebastian was sick about 3 weeks ago, I have a follow up appointment in a week to run a CBC to see where he's at. I am confident to say that he probably feels a lot better then he did. Metronidazole is a hard antibiotic for our little ones. Now I know that he is sensitive to it. I want to thank all of you for writing me and Sebastian on this topic. I looked forward to reading all your ideas and advise. I will be posting about what vitamins I have my little one on. I look forward to hearing from you all😘 |
