Weird breathing noises Hi guy, Maybe you can help me out before I rush jack to the vet. I took him to the vet last week because there were times when we would see some blood on the sheets where he was laying. Bet said yorkies have very bad teeth and Jack is one of them. She says he got some loose teeth and that might be the reason why he bleeds. She just cleaned his teeth in March so she doesn't want to put him under again. We are waiting u tol October. Anyway the past two days it seems like when he breathes he makes weird noises. The best way to describe this is that he sounds like he has the sniffles when he breathes out. He doesn't struggle to breathe but he definitely is making some weird noises. Please let me know if you think you know what it could be and if I should take him to the vet. Thanks |
Sounds like a potential respiratory infection or pneumonia which would require veterinary treatment and antibiotics. Does he have discharge coming from his eyes or nose and/or a change in temperature? If he has dental infections he is much more likely to be susceptible to other illnesses as well. I would get your little guy back into the vet. |
This could be from different things, so it's hard to say. The first thing that comes to mind is seasonal / enviro allergies, which can cause breathing issues just like this. Any other allergy symptoms? Does he chew/lick his paws? If so, probably has allergies. There is an allergy thread in the Health Library section. Could also be that there is a tooth infection that is boring a hole toward the nasal cavity and if that's a possibility - he needs to go to the vet NOW to get this treated. |
I took him to the vet and she says it sounds like allergies. He didn't even really do the breathing thing at the vet so I looked crazy 🙄. I gave him Benadryl like the doctor said and he hasn't really Done it again. We did go over getting him a teeth cleaning again at the end of the month. Once he is under she will check out his teeth and pull out whatever is loose and that should stop the bleeding. Thanks guys |
I'm glad it looks like it is 'just' allergies (I know that can be a tough cookie too so I don't mean to minimize it) and I'm so glad you took him in to check it out. I don't like to be an over reactor but respritory stuff can be so scary and dangerous! Good job keeping him safe, I hope you guys get the allergies under control :) |
I don't understand why a vet would not want to anesthetize again. If he has loose teeth and the gums are bleeding, I would want it done now.
