Why do you guys that do,, feed your Yorkies wet food? I been reading alot on here about the wet foods. I'm wondering your reasons for feeding wet foods? I have never fed mine wet, only dry. Should I be? Wondering... :confused: |
NO, if they are happy with dry, don't go down that road. I am sure I have created my own problems but when rescue's first come in the 1st priority is to get them to eat...and wet accomplishes this. Once you start with wet it is very difficult to get them to just eat dry. I would love to get everyone off of wet (it would save me a ton of $$$$$$$) but I am not willing to go 2 or 3 days to see if they will go to dry food only. |

Ok~ thanks, I thought it was mainly to get the finicky ones to eat, but after seeing how many people feed the wet, I started to wonder, even though I know our breed can be picky eaters,, Xcept mine,,he'll eat ANYTHING! And I'm not even kidding. I guess that's good. :rolleyes: Thanks. |
I am anti wet food... I watched my girlfriends 3 year old have 80% of her teeth removed as a result of a wet diet! Well, the fact that she did not brush her dogs teeth was not helpfull either. If they have the choice between wet and dry, the wet almost always wins and they need the chewing action of the kibble. It helps their teeth, is less dense in calories, promotes firmer stools... the list goes on... The closest I am comming to wet is the Natural Ballance rolls. They are not wet, but softer than the Kibble.... and its only as a training treat. They are kinda like a Hickory Farms Summer Sasuage.. same feel to them. I can dice them up and it holds its shape. I chop up a half a roll and store it in the fridge in a ziplock. Anyway... unless I have a sick animal that is too weak to eat dry, or has a major loss of appitite.. I don't use wet. But I do keep a can in the pantry, cause you never know when you'll need it! |
Cali would only eat Cesars, beleive me I tried so many others. She was 1 lb when I got her and had 2 hypoglycemic episodes so I had to get her to eat. |
Made it easier to give Gracie her calcium supplements. :D |
There are reasons to feed wet food and reasons not to feed wet food.. My fur kids have a bowl out all day of dry kibble to munch on as needed. At night they get the dry and just a very small amount of wet mixed in. I only do this as a "special treat" each day, strictly personal and for no other reasons. |
I do not like feeding wet food at all, however, Lily always ate with my cat Jello (who just died last week). Jello ate wet food and Lily always cleaned up what Jello left. Since Jello has been gone, Lily is hardly eating anything. I don't know if it is because she wants the cat food or just misses Jello. :confused: |
I feed my kids dry food only, they do get meat roll as a treat during the day and i give them a bit of fat free yoghurt in the evenings. They have dry kibble in their dishes all day to nibble on, but Chanel needs to be bribed to eat so we "play feed" her in the evenings and mornings to make sure she's getting fed! |
Simon and Hallie get wet food in the morning if they are going to daycare and won't eat their kibble. I do it becuase I want them to eat something and they know it's a "treat" they get twice a week in the morning. I then take the remainder of wet food and bake it to make treats. |

Ditto here. I mix 1 teaspoon of canned food mixed with a little water on each of my baby's evening meal. I measure the amount of canned plus dry they get at this meal very carefully and monitor how much they eat. Normally they eat every single kibble and finish up with some of the dry in the bowl as dessert. It is more for me that it is for them, I call it insurance. I know that whether or not they choose to "snack" during the day, they have had one nice warm meal and go to bed with their bellies full. |
Is it still bad to give them wet if they get hard things to chew on for their teeth? Like Busy Bones or bisquits? |
