Eating poopie in yard
 
I was not sure where to put this. I took my little one out for a walk in the yard this am and I think he ate poopie of another animal while outside. He does not bother his own poopie in the house so I was surprised. He stopped to sniff something in the yard and then ate it, swallowing it quickly when he saw me walk toward him. What was in the area looked like poopie. :( He has had all of his vaccinations but should i worry?

Poop from wild animals is often attractive to Yorkies. Rabbit poop, deer, geese, and so on. I wouldn't worry too much, but try to avoid it in the future.

The biggest concerns are transfer of tapeworm, easily cured by meds, and Lepto, not easily treated and potentially deadly.

Tapeworm: small rice like things on the rear end or in your pup's poop, sometimes the pieces move like worms. Max had this once. Usually it is from swallowing fleas, but we didn't have fleas. Our vet said that Max may have eaten a bunny poop or something and gotten it that way.

Lepto: rare cases can be asymptomatic, but usually the dog will have a fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea. Lepto is also transmitted through water droplets in grass or standing water. There is a vaccine but it only covers 4 of 100+ strains.

I have to steer my boys away from bird droppings too. Yorkies! :D

My Lily has been on the prowl for lizard poop and is now taking medication for Giardia, vet gave us meds for five days, a white chalky liquid. What am I to do, he also said standing nasty water as well. The only water around my house could have been the A/C dripping water. Needless to say, she can find anything in the yard. The A/C water issue will be fixed TODAY. Being in FL lizards are everywhere, and also he told me that it could be in the ground and she could just sniff and it could get in her nose. Now really, how do I control that when I take her with me everywhere. :aimeeyork

Thanks for the info. He did not seem to have any problems from this fortunately.
