Interceptor Plus? What happened to regular? Dr. Foster Smith question too Anyone have any problems giving Interceptor Plus? I liked the plain interceptor without the second drug ( too many drugs!). I can get it from Dr.Foster and Smith but my vet says 3rd party are not reputable. Is this true? Does anyone know? |

I order all my meds from a drug company in Australia, and I alternate those with a site here in the USA....(Ivermectin from J.R.Enterprises). I like to rotate heartworm meds .....just feel better rotating those drugs.....I have never had a Yorkie come down with heart worms......I am using a new pill, also from Australia, HFT Ezybones.....that pill covers it all, heart worms, tapeworms, fleas, etc.....easy to give and tolerated well... Cant speak for all vets, but heartworm meds are a "bread and butter item" for vets....my vet also would not assist me in going anyplace else for heartworm meds....but I have never had heartworms in any of my dogs, and I always order them from Australia or JR Enterprises.. |
I have heard that ordering online can void the warranty for like of a better word. |
I usually get all meds from my babies' vet. |

I order mine from JR Enterprises. I will probably have to replace the bottle before it is empty just because of the expiration date. My dogs don't like me giving it to them via syringe so I usually add it to a small amount of pumpkin and they eat it up. I also split my flea medication. A usual 3 month supply will last me 9 months. I try to find the best cost savings on meds. |
I buy my medications from my veterinarian, whenever possible. Years ago, my little girl (she's at the Rainbow Bridge now) had dementia, and she needed medication for it. It is the same medication given for Parkinson's disease. There was a national shortage on it, so my vet couldn't get it. I was very happy with Dr. Foster's and Smith, and I was so thrilled to be able to get the medication from them. I was at the vet today with Katie, and there was a sign about being careful about where you get pet medicine. He recommended Dr. Foster's and Smith and Chewy, com. Heartworm medication is guaranteed by the company if given properly. Taylor (Loves to Dream) is correct in what she said. It is only guaranteed if bought from a veterinarian. Dr. Foster's and Smith have their own guarantee, however. I honestly don't know how you would prove continuous usage. This is what is posted on their website: "Heartworm Preventives - In order for this guarantee to be effective, the client or their veterinarian must contact the Doctors Foster and Smith Pet Pharmacy at 1-800-447-3021 prior to beginning any treatment. Proof of a negative heartworm test within the 6 months prior to the pet being started on product purchased from our pharmacy will be required, as well as a positive heartworm antigen test, confirmed by an outside laboratory. We will also require verification of continuous use of the heartworm preventive on a monthly basis, with the last dose being taken within 31 days prior to the diagnosis, as well as proof of annual heartworm testing. We have found the average cost of heartworm treatment to be about $800.00. Doctors Foster and Smith will reimburse the client for diagnostic work-up and treatment, up to and including $1500 per animal.*" Drs. Foster & Smith Pharmacy guarantees all of the prescription heartworm preventives they sell |
Your vet isn't correct here - there are plenty of online reputable vendors, Fosters and Smith being one of them, 1800PetMeds being another one. As long as you're giving your heartworm every single month, you shouldn't really need to worry too much about the guarantee issue. |
what is the plus in interceptor? |

I know people who buy Nexgard without a prescription from Australia. The price is half of what it is here. I'd wonder if it is counterfeit. Do research on the pharmacy you are using. With Heartworm medication I'd want to know that it is not a counterfeit drug and that it is current. To the OP, my vet prescribed only the Interceptor for Katie, not the plus. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help to you. http://www.fda.gov/downloads/ForCons.../UCM115432.pdf |
