licking air Hello, my 7yr old yorkie, barbara, has been of lately licking the air almost compulsively... she licks a paw or the sheets then starts licking the air and raising her head as she does so... would anybody know why she does this or howbtobstop it? Thankyou |
My girl is 1 1/2 and she licks everything!! And also air. My JR licks air as well and my vet said it was from her heart condition. I have an appt for my little one to see why she does this licking. |
This is a sigh of indigestion in dogs. |
Many dogs will do this when they're having reflux / GERD, which is very uncomfortable. It's treated w/ Pepcid very easily. |
Might be a sign of compulsive disorder. But that's one of the many reasons, see a vet if it's happening for a longer period of time. :animal36:animal-pa |

our vet told us to take Pepcid ac ....1/4 tablet...but I don't like to give my dogs meds unless I can't find another way. feeding smaller meals more often will help the dog digest the food easier and may solve a lot of the problem....I also pulverized the kibble so that my dog could digest it even easier. then we stopped going to a vet who without my consent was giving my dogs unnecessaryinjections and when that stopped my dog was able to eat things he could never eat before, like treats and regular size meals with no bile.... please do not give your dog anything with out the advise of your vet...Pepcid ac or other wise. good luck. tina tina |
honey for acidity thankyou all for your relplies and ideas. after i read it could be reflux, i investigated further and since i was not near a vet, i found natural remedies... apparently honey is excellent to help stop the acidity. i gave her very little, perhaps 3ml... once in the morning and once at night, she has had no more symptoms... i will still take her to the vet, but she seems very tranquil and comfortable. |
