The allergy delima Well I think moose might be allergic to wheat, can that be. I have her on the "authority harvest baked", good stuff no corn, joint suppliments, ect. Compared it to stuff like merick, innova ect. Well now she has started itching and bitting at her front legs, and I know that can be a sign of food allergies, she doesn't do too much outdoor stuff so I don't think it is an allergy to plants. So would the wheat be causing the problem? I have started looking again at foods. I like the harvest baked because it was good and relativly inexpensive and could be foung at petsmart but now I might be rethinking food. One thing I am woundering is how improtant is it that I get a food that has the glucosimine and condrotin in it and how much protein it too much? The harvest baked is 24% should I go with something lower? She's a year old now and is on adult formula and I have read other post about food choices, but no one really had an opinion on the tow questions I had. |
anyone have any suggestions? |
The allergies can be environmental too. My dog has bad allergies and I haveswitched his foods several times. I would talk to your vet about the allergies and get his suggestions on what to do. My dogs are bad he has chewed his whole back up and is on prednisone. I wish it was as minor as your dog sounds. |
that's horrible, I am glad moose's are not that bad, but I feel bad for her when she's nawing on her legs. My vet is of very little help mostly, she was great until she got her own practice and got too big, we are trying to look for another vet but haven't found a good one yet. I want to try to switch her food before I start on meds or allergy tests though, I've gone through those and know how uncomfortable they can be. |
This is what I found on the web about pet's & food allergy.... What is food allergy and what are its symptoms? Food allergy is an allergic reaction to one or more ingredients in a pet’s food. The most common allergens are beef and milk products, cereals (wheat, corn, soya), chicken and eggs. The exact cause of a food allergy is not known. Perhaps a change in the pet’s immune system causes certain ingredients to be perceived as “foreign,” initiating inflammatory mechanisms to fight off the perceived “intruder.” The most common symptoms of a food allergy are itching, licking or chewing. Otitis Externa (ear infection) along with other skin problems are also common in conjunction with food hypersensitivity. Some pets may also have diarrhea and other digestive problems. Symptoms can appear at any age, whether a pet has just started a new diet or has been eating the same food for several years. |
