Thanks again in advance. tina |
1 Attachment(s) Sorry it took so long for me to get back....had some things at home to take care of. I stopped the vinegar and water about 2days ago...I don't see any change as I think you can see in the attached pic. I called the Vet again on Monday to confirm his opinion of what GiGi has and he said that he does not think it is from a bacteria or fungus but that it is a discoloration of her skin and unless she is showing some discomfort he would leave it alone.. He also said that the only way to be sure is to do a biopsy which I don't want to do cause she is 14 already and not showing any signs of discomfort or itching. I am going to try to look into other things it might be from such as diet or something.....but I think for now I will continue the vinegar and water to see if another week will start to make any difference. If you have any opinions or ideas please comment. Thanks tina |
My baby had that on his ears and my vet said it was caused by too much heat in the house. Mickey loved the heater and laid kind of close to it and I put it away and started to care for his ears with a cream that he gave me. It was called Animax ointment. It is a nystatin-neomycin sulfate and seemed to do really well in a week. I had never heard of such a thing but it must have been true. He is well now and has no more symptoms at all. |

Thanks in advance Tina |
No it didn't scrape off. It was just dark spots that didn't seem to bother him at all. He didn't scratch at them and nothing came off no matter what I did. That is why I went to the vet. |

Btw do you happen to have any left that I can buy from you if I can't get a prescript.....not sure if it is right to ask that of you but I just thought of it while I am typing....no prob if you don't or don't think it is right to do. thanks again for your help. Will keep everyone up dated. tina |
Well, Mickey's ears did not smell bad. It was just surface darkening the skin on his ears. I don't have any more of the salve, just wrote the name down in case it happened again. Good luck. |

Leather ear update Hi all.... I started trying the solution of peroxide and vinegar and then applying a thin layer of lotromin 1% on GiGi's ear (actually the pharmacist in the shop rite I go gave me a generic brand which is 1/3 of the price of lotromin, she said she has had these problems with her dog too). I tried it for the first time on Thursday, did not do it on Friday. When I looked at it this morning it seemed like the dark discoloration had faded a bit (was that my imagination?). So I tried the solution again this morning and when I was cleaning GiGi's ear with the peroxide and vinegar solution the tiniest black specs started to come off on the cotton ball. So I continued as I was drying her ear with some additional cotton balls I saw more very tiny black specs coming off on the cotton. So I am hoping this is what the others were talking about and that GiGi's ears will get back to normal. I am going to apply the solution every other day till I see how her skin responds to all this. Right now I am only doing the skin side of the ear and later will do the hair side of the ear...which does not look as if it has lost any hair (yet anyway). Once again thanks for everybody's help...I will post pics as we go along. |
