Allergies? My baby has been sneezing and reverse sneezing a lot the last few days and I know in my area Redwood City, CA it is pretty high in pollen on certain day especially now that it is spring, I even developed allergies living here. So how do I know for sure that he is having allergies? He is not licking his paws or anything just has been sneezing and reverse sneezing a lot and I'm concerned:confused: |
The pollen is really high here too and Max has been sneezing a little, especially after our trips to the park. |
Is there anything we can do about it? Does her reverse sneeze too? The whole reverse sneeze thing scares me the most sometimes he makes a honking sound. |
If he doing it daily and having long episodes, I would check in with the vet. Some Yorkies are more prone to reverse sneezing especially when they are excited or riled up. Covering the nose for a second or two or blowing into the nose often helps them swallow and end the attack. |
Max does a little reverse sneezing after a bath when he is doing zoomies. I think he gets water up his nose. Some dogs will do it after drinking water. |
Thank you so much for that trick! I'm going to use it. I will take him to the vet if this persists or has a long episode a few months ago he had a really long episode it went on for about 5-7 minutes I had no idea what it was later I learned that it was reverse sneezing. I even recorded it. Thank you for the advice:love: |
Sometimes Zoey goes into the "honking mode" and I don't know if it is reverse sneezing or a trachea problem. How to tell? |
that's what i'm worried about that it's a trachea problem I just pray to god everyday that he's a healthy baby. |

After watching, I think Zoey had reverse sneezing. This went on for a least 30 mins and she looked distressed. I finally gave her .07 ml of Hydrocodone cough syrup (mine) and the coughing stopped immediately. I tried the rubbing of her throat but it did not help and I was worried about it being a trachea problem. |

She was coughing and gagging. The cough syrup was a tiny drop as I am aware of the adverse affects it can cause. Actually, I went online and did a quick research on giving her the syrup. I would not make it a habit to do that but she was in distress and it didn't seem to be stopping. She doesn't do this often but if it does happen it usually starts with her barking and progressing to the honking. |
For sneezing due to allergies, I've used benedryl or Claritin. Both work decently. I tend to go with benedryl becuase I always have it on hand. |

I'm taking my Wulfie to the Vet today. He gave me a scare last night at 3:30 in the morning the reverse sneeze sounded a little violent I quickly blew into his nose and it stopped and he just curled up in my arms. My poor Wulf I hope everything is okay. |
Well we went to the vet said it was allergies. She gave me some antihistamines he was regular sneezing and sniffling the drive there and while we were there he was regular sneezing followed by a reverse sneeze when the vet walked in so she saw for herself. I did start mixing his puppy food with some adult kibble on the 14th but she doesn't think it's food allergies. It's a hot day today and everyones allergies are acting up because of this crazy weather it was raining then cold then super hot these last few days. So happy that's all I is and nothing worse I was so worried. Phew. |
Your poor little guy. Happy to hear the vet gave you an antihistamine. I was going tell you about the time Teddy got a piece of rice up his nose. He had the craziest sneezing fits. Sounded like a muppet and I thought his head was going to come flying off because the fits were so violent. Same thing can happen with pollen and other irritants. When I took him him to the vet, he sneezed out the rice before he saw the doctor. :D Wishing Beowulf and you a peaceful evening, hopefully sneeze free. |
