I looked.... but NOT EATING MUCH?... Hello, I tried looking through the threads here and even using search. My Yorkie is 9wks old. When I take him to his food dish and sit there with him he won't really eat it... I'll lay a couple out on the floor and he'll eat maybe 5 or 6 little puppy kibbles and then he'll stop. I'm worried if he doesn't eat much he'll form hypoglycemia and I don't want that to happen. Is it normal for him to only eat that much? I'm not sure why he isn't very hungry. Thanks! |
Such a little guy. Chewie was 13 1/2 weeks and eating kibble when I brought her home. Royal canin, matter of fact. Didn't matter, for the first week we found out a few things. Firstly, she didn't eat much until the next morning (got her home by 7pm) when we put out a special wet food from pet smart that got her appetite going. Despite adding it to her kibble, she still licked that off. I gave and gradually added her kibble back over the next two weeks. She also wouldn't drink much, so I started adding bottled water to her kibble as well. She's now on dry food, but still loves it to have water in it at least 20% of the time, which I don't fight. I will also add that she wouldn't eat from a plate OR a bowl. Just my hands and the one time a day husband feeds her, his. I was told that was a great thing, so I have been encouraging the hand feeding. I like to let her eat herself, and she'll do so, but she loves the hand feeding. Oh, one thing. they say for her weight, it's approx. 1/4 a cup (portions) to feed her. She eats less than this, and prefers small snacks throughout the day. You really have to watch and see. What is his weight? Did you switch foods when you got him? If so, switch back to whatever he was eating successfully w/ the breeder. Also, try sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on the food. Is he active? Are poos normal etc? Have their been any hypogly episodes...? |

He is 1.12 lbs. I did not switch foods. The breeder gave me a bag of food & he is still on that. The cheese won't hurt him? I'll try it. Poops are normal. He seemed a little constipated when he tried to poo the first morning but he seems better with poop's. He is active. He'll play for about an hour & then sleep for about 2 hours. Play for an hour sleep for about half hour.... Off & on. Actively plays and runs around but sleeps a lot also. & ive been watching for him to shake, etc.... He seems to be normal while he's awake & playing. But that's why I'm worried because of the hypo possibility. |

She's suuuuper suspicious of her food now, but is getting better now that she knows it's the banana, and it's over fast. I've been giving her small treats of parmesan cheese when I cook my daughter her favorite dish once a week and I now sprinkle it over her dry kibble, to encourage her to continue drinking from a bowl. I also put it on for 24 hours to GET her to eat her food. She absolutely adores it. I've seen no adverse symptoms. |
