Scared of spay
 
Precious is scheduled to get spayed April 11th & I'm absolutely horrified.
I feel so afraid & I have no one else to talk about this with or anyone with experience.
I've also read so many horror stories about people's pets not waking up or the stitches popping resulting in death.
The vet said she did great with the anesthesia when she got her teeth cleaned but I'm still so scared.
& then there the increased risk of hemangiosarcoma, the vet told me that's more in large dogs but I'm scared because it can still happen

I just don't know what to do. I don't want her to hurt or anything to happen to her. She's an extremely big part of my life & id just be so lost without her.
She's already 7 years old & weighs 4 pounds now. & this is just really getting to me so much that all I want to do is lay down & cry & im nonstop anxious & im not even close to being excited about my 19th birthday on April 5.

I just want precious to be okay. I would risk my life for her & I just don't want her to hurt on my behalf & I just need reassurance that she'll be okay

Try not to worry so much. There are risks but I think it would be a greater risk to not have her spayed. The older an intact female gets the greater the chance is that she will get pyometra, which can be life threatening.
It is a situation that evolves risks not matter what you do. Over the years I have had a number of females spayed and they did just fine. None of them had any complications. Just try to be calm and don't worry to much. I am sure she will do just fine.

After one year of age, each unbred cycle takes a toll on the little lady. If she is a breeder, there is not a problem when she is bred each time she comes into heat....an unbred heat cycle is not healthy for a breeding female.....if she continually pounds her body with the unnecessary hormones that come with each cycle, and she is not bred to compensate for the over production of these hormones, she is at risk for a variety of disorders or conditions.....

She's not a breeder

She will be okay...do the pre-surg bloodwork and that should assure you that she is in good health and ready for surgery. I know it's so scary, we've all been there! :)

Make sure you come home w/ pain meds and a pain plan for any unresolved pain.

She had bloodwork done September of last year & the 17th of this month & everything looks good.

I would also request the vet have an IV in place during surgery, in case there is an issue during surgery, they have immediate access to a vein....I thought ALL vets did this and was stunned to learn they do not! I always have an IV going during surgery, and they leave it in place after surgery to "tank them up" with fluid and glucose, to help cover them post op when they are not eating....they leave the IV in, giving IV fluid, right until I pick them up...of course, I always give mine Dr.Millers Nutra Drops every 8 hours post op for stress management....
