Neutering My Yorkie going to be neutered in two weeks he also have a undesended testicle that has to be removed what do I put on him to keep him from getting his stitches I am reluctent to put e collar on him |
Depending on his size, I hear a baby's onesie works well. They also have soft inflatable collars to avoid e-collars. Inflatable Dog Collar Soft Alternative to Elizabethan Collars to Protect Dogs | eBay |
Their was a woman on this site called "mom to hot rod" that made easy-e collars for dogs in different designs that you could order to get your dog to use. They are a soft collar that is made to fit around his small neck. I ordered one and surprisingly my boy was actually very well behaved with his neutering. I did have to watch him cause he was very active the day after his neuter. I did not have to use it much actually. Sometimes you just have to see how he will be cause I was worried as well that he would mess with his stitches but he didn't. I would just be ready for if he does try to mess with them and see how it goes. You might be surprised. |
Amazingly, I did not need to use anything for Mario. He did very well not messing up his stitches, and he was under extra stress since his neuter was done the day we adopted him (Pound rules :( . No going home with us until he was neutered). We would have neutered him anyway, but IMO, it is just extra stressful on the poor little ones when they undergo surgery, then go home to a brand new environment and family all in the same day. |
I have an inflatable e collar and seem heavy around his neck |
You can try using a onesie. All of my kiddos left their sutures alone. Also, btw, DO come home w/ pain meds AND a pain plan for any excessive pain that the meds don't work for. |
