Is this ok??? Just fed my yorkie some rice with a little bit of the IAMS dog gravy. She loooves it! Is it ok to feed dogs rice? |
Yea I think its ok! Whenever my dog was sick my vet would always tell me to feed him ground beef and rice becuase it soothes there stomach or something. But yea its good for them.! |
Oh what a relief..haha I was hoping I wouldnt find out the hard way in a few hours..haha. She really enjoyed it that's for sure. Definitley a food to give her when she's been good. :) |
Becareful with people food, they are so smart she might hold our for it and not want her dog food. They are smart little buggers. :D I learned this the hard way...............Cindy |
Well sure.........feed her some vegies too! SOme, not all my dogs like bananas...."whats up with that!?"..... Anyway, I fed my puppies the rich grease off of chicken this afternoon besides their , they absolutely loved it! ( the kind after plain baked chicken with skin on) but I have to tell you, the POOP WAS AWFUL!!!!!!!! Healthy poop but AWFUL!!!!!! They sure did have tons of energy though. I think we need a pppppppp..........uuuuuu.....smiley! |
Haha thanks for the advice! She really wanted some of my chicken noodle soup the other day..she was wimpering and begging for it...i let her lick the broth..she loved it! Also, I was eating a cup of mixed fruit and she ate a grape and pineapple. :p |
I'm probably really bad - but I leet Bailey eat almost anything I do in addition to his food. And they're right - he's smart and wants my food more than his! I don't feed him from the table so he doesn't beg - but from the couch - look out! He's a BEGGAR!!! My vet said they need calories as active pups, just stay away from salty and really unhealthy stuff. Fruits and veggies are great! Now I have a question... I use Science Diet canned puppy food. What do you guys recommend for a dry food. He doesn't really like the Science Diet dry stuff. Is it just cause he's spoiled or is there a yummy alternative that's healthy too? ~Kelley |
I've heard really bad things about Science Diet in general...they are only considered premium dog food because o fthe preservatives they use...if you look at the ingredients on the dry dog food the first ingredient is corn. When looking for a dry food for your dog if any of the first 3 or 4 ingredients is corn I would be weary...make sure the first to ingredients are meat meal. Also, don't buy anything with the word by-product in the ingredient list. Here are some foods I think are good (after doing tons of research for my little one): - Fromm's Four Star Nutritionals - Cannidae - Solid Gold - Wellness (but your pup will most likely hate the taste and texture) My baby is on solid gold hundchen flocken puppy food and might switch to Cannidae or Fromm's when she's ready for adult food. Royal Canin is ok if your Yorkie is a super picky eater and won't touch the stuff that's better for him. Hope this helps. I have a bunch of links I can provide if anyone wants them. |
Also, be careful feeding only wet food, Yorkies need kibble to clean and strengthen their teeth...if she'll only eat wet food make sure to give her biscuits that will clean her teeth and work her jaw! |
Thanks for the info! I've had a hard time finding stuff without corn and by-products as the first ingredients! I'll look into those! Bailey has a hard time with solid dog food, I soften it with water. Do you? He tends to try it but spits it out if it's too hard. But like I say he has quite the varied diet with people food, so it's not all soft. But he'll spit out people food, like toast, if the piece isn't tiny and easy for his little mouth to chew. He'll eat it if he spits it out and then I break it for him. Does anyone else do that? ~Kelley |
hmmm...how old is Bailey? |
He's 7 months old. It's not a tooth issue because he LOVES chewing on little rawhide bones - so he's not shy about chewing on hard stuff! I think I may have just spoiled him too soon with people food! |
i feed mine human food, too the only foods that i've read about in my "hound health" book that are bad for dogs are: chocolate macadamia nuts tomatoes onion and garlic grapes and raisins (in large quantities can cause kidney damage) |
