Pancreatitis Scare, please advise While I was gone, Moxie managed to somehow knock the stick of butter of off the counter. She ate most of it. That is a LOT of fat. Should I be worried? She is only 7lbs |
OMG! Yes, call your vet now! Depending on how long ago it was, you may be able to induce vomiting. Hope she's ok. Pancreatitis can be deadly! |

It just takes one time |
LadyGemma please don't blame yourself. You didn't 'allow her'. It just happened. Accidents happen. Keep a close eye on her. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, turning away from her food. At the first sign of stomach distress head to your vet. I hope she will be fine, but at least you'll catch it early if it affects her pancreas. Diana |
How is Moxie doing? Praying she is okay. |
Hope she's doing ok. the other day we left a few slivers of raw onion on a cutting board on the counter. Uni can jump on the counter easily. We came home and there were some pieces off the cutting board and I think one piece was missing. I offered a piece to Uni to see if she would take it (to see if she thought it was a no no food or not) and she tried to take it! I freaked out, and checked online how much onion a dog has to eat for it to be poisonous. A dog Uni's size (about 7 lbs) would have to eat half of an entire onion, so luckily we were all good. If she is fine, treat this as a lesson. I never leave anything on the counter anymore. I always thought Uni would know what she can eat and what she can't, but now I don't trust her as much. |
Thank you all so much for your kind words and prayers. Moxie seems to be ok and there was no physical side effects that I could see, although her bm's were a little greasy :(. I have made a commitment to be more careful. Then the other day I come home to see my roommate has left chocolate bars out! I will have to move if I can't trust him, it's very frustrating. Moxie seems fine but I worry about cumulative damage. |
Glad to hear about Moxie, but upset with you to hear about the chocolate! Please be firm with reminding him, or if you can, when you are gone, leave her locked in your room. She cannot be out without your supervision. Or you can make it well known your rule which worked for me, whoever gets the dog sick pays for the vet bill! |

I'm glad too that Moxie is doing well. |
Hi Ladygemma - my 7 lb Yorkie ate 1/4 stick of butter yesterday evening. So stressful. I'm glad to hear yours is out of the woods. I was in time to induce vomiting. Now just waiting it out and hope he doesn't get pancreatitis. I won't leave grocery bags on the floor again! |
