Bee stings? Hey, was wondering if anyone had their yorkie stung by a bee? I'm really interested in getting a small honeybee hive for the yard. It will of course be fenced off and raised so my dogs can't get near the entrance. However, I assume there will be a larger population of bees in area. Anyone have any experience with this? |
Bee stings can be deadly to dogs & often are. They are accumulative as well meaning each time they are stung it builds in their system, this is NOT something I would have around any dog. |
I'm sure it can be done safely as people who have dogs also do have bee colonies - but I'd def do a ton of research. |
My Zoey was stung and screamed from pain. Rushed her to the vet and she had to get a shot for anaphylaxis and spend the day there. Cost hundreds of dollars. Would not advise bees around your yard. |

Wouldnt go there! I had a huge hive removed from under the eve of my home about 2 years ago. Before we got started, I (thank God) happened to mention I had yorkies....the bee keeper told me to go put the dogs in the house and keep them there for 12-24 hours, until the bees calmed down, any straggler bees had left, etc.....(I dont let my dogs out in the yard unattended, so I was not concerned about this event!)....these are just honey bees, with no killer bee infiltration....but I would not intentionally have a bee hive on my property.... |
