Gross, but I have to ask! Poop question Ladybug is 2 yrs old and is eating fine. Not acting sick. But just now she has a normal poop but it was covered with orange-yellow mucus. I read it could be allergies, food intolerance, liver issues, on and on. Has anyone had this happen and what was wrong? |
I have never had that happen to me, but with the list of things it could be, I would collect that and head to the vet.....some of the issues listed, are/can be serious and require immediate vet attention! |
Possibly colitis, but you really need to take a sample to the vet. Only they can tell you for sure. |
Did she have any new treats or possibly eat something she should not have? Mucous is usually a sign of something irritating the colon. |
I am trying to switch her to a grain free food of the same brand she's been eating. It's been a couple weeks now and I'm doing it slowly. Thing is, she eats it last. Meaning it sits there til she's hungry enough to finally eat it which can be hours after eating her usual food. Could this be the issue? That she's not really mixing it in with her usual food. I watch her close, so I know she hasn't eaten anything off the floor. She doesn't go outside at all. She's pee pad trained. |
I'd keep an eye on it. See what the next poo looks like. It's probably a food thing, but if it continues or gets a lot worse you should take a sample by the vet and see what they think. Stress can cause mucous in the poo as well. |

This has me baffled. I know she doesn't like being crated. But there are times I have no choice. She's not been trained and I've only had her a couple months. So when I can't keep an eye on her she gets crated. I use a crate because she's in my bedroom and its carpeted. I have an area where I keep one door open for her to use her pee pad and she can't go anywhere else. I can't put her in an area in the hall because she gets cold and she cries because she can't see me. My daughter has my granddaughter's pack n play stored in my basement. Maybe she'll let me buy it from her. Do you think that may help? |
If the mucus is at the very end of the poo, it's likely some anal gland emptying. If the mucus is around the whole poo, then it's more likely that the GI tract is irritated by something (like the food change or whatnot). |
Well, update: I didn't give her any of the new food yesterday and she just pooed. It was perfectly normal. So I'm not switching. She's OK with what she's eating, even if its not grain free like I'd prefer. |
