Food problems Michi is almost 7 months old and has always been such a good eater until about a month or so ago. He was on royal canin and would gobble it down in seconds. But he was constantly itching and rubbing himself on the carpet so the vet said he was likely allergic to his food. I switched him to natural balance sweet potato and fish....he loved it but he smelled so bad from it. I couldn't take it anymore so I switched him to the lamb and rice flavor. The smell went away within 2 days and he seemed to really like the food,..although he was still itching a lot. Not so much carpet rubbing anmore but still itching and licking skin. Well after about a month on that food he suddenly didn't want to eat it anymore....at all. I tried the duck and potato formula...he wouldn't touch it. I switched him to canidae...he will only eat it a lil bit at a time and it takes him a while. He will stare at it and at me for a while before he actually eats it and usually leaves quite a bit. He is constantly itching and licking his skin all day and night. I think it may be from the chicken because it is grain free. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to avoid having an allergy test done because it is so expensive...but I may have to end up doing that. |
Having already been on RC and enjoying it, they have a complete line of food for allergies....I am not sure I agree it is the food that he is having a problem with, but allergy testing would certainly help you head in the correct direction....if he is not allergic to the food he was on and enjoying so much, it seems a shame and pull him off it based on a guess. I would have him tested and go from there....there is so much he can be allergic to, it seems a shame to change up his diet that he enjoyed and ate so well.... |
We just got home from the vet...they gave him a shot and prescription food to try for at least a month. I fed him as soon as we got home and he gobbled it down and wanted more. The only thing I don't like is that the kibbles are so big...but he didn't seem to mind. Hopefully this well help. If not I will have to have the allergy test done. |
