Coughing & Gagging Does anyone else have problems with their Yorkie making coughing, gagging, choking sounds? My soon to be 11 weeks old Yorkie seems to have gotten worse with these symptoms. Should I be worried? He goes to the vet in 4 days. |
I would call your vet's office and tell them about the symptoms and ask to get him in sooner, especially because he is so young and the symptoms are getting worse. |
dog Be sure you are not pulling on his neck when on leash. This will cause problems. I use a harness with leash connected to strap around belly. |
He doesn't have a leash yet. I was told he isn't able to be around other animals or go outside until he is done with all vaccines. Is this true?? |

Perhaps your pet has allergies? Yorkies are known to be very sensitive. Also yes, please do use a harness.... If all else fails, see a vet. Good luck. |
Could be signs of reverse sneezing but also could be sign of collapsing trachea... Definitely worth a trip to the vet. |
This baby could have kennel cough/bordetella -- did you get the kennel cough vaccine? If so, they can actually get the cough from the vaccine itself. If he has it, he'll need meds for it, asap. |
What happened? Did you take the baby to the vet? |
Reverse Sneezing Prince Charming had this. He started it in the vet's office when being checked for his first visit. The vet told me to NEVER use a collar for anything on him as it would only make it worse. He showed me the harnesses he preferred and I went to Petsmart and found one for extra small dogs. He used it for 16.5 years. Wore it to the bridge  when his Uncle Jim buried him in his special box (made by Uncle Jim too). |
He went to the vet 4 days after (January 2) I posted about his cough. The vet didn't give him anything for it. However, it seems to have gotten even worse last night! I called the vet and waiting on a call back. My co-worker has a yorkie as well and she said her's had the same and they gave her an antibiotic shot. |

I took him back last week, AGAIN on January 13. The vet said everything was okay. He just coughs when he starts jumping around and getting excited. And he goes back tomorrow for his 14 week vaccines! :) |

Ginger does the same thing, but really only in the morning after she eats, drinks, or is outside in the cold. It doesn't last, but still concerns me! Ginger is 17 weeks old. |
