Royal Canin? Has anyone here fed Royal Canin puppy? I am wanting to go ahead and pick out Eleanor's food so when she starts to wean she can start on what she'll be getting once she's home with me. I was wondering about starting on the Royal Canin puppy and then going to the Yorkie formula when she is old enough. Is this food okay as far as you guys know or am I better off looking at an Innova formulation? I want a brand that has at least been out a while. The whole Diamond brand thing has me a little freaked out |
We use Royal Canin with Tucker and he LOVES it! :D Some people say it has made their dogs' skin itch, but Tuck hasn't had any problems. |
We used RC puppy with lexi and just recently switched to adult...she loved it. Some say that there babies skin itches but not lexi's think it might depend on your baby. The breeder had her on Eukanuba and we began to wean onto RC but she would pick all the RC out and leave the Eukanuba he he |
Kodi is almost 6 months old and he's been eating the RC puppy. His breeder had him eating it so I've kept him on it. He loves it and no itchy skin. |
We had our 2 on RC & the older one kept itching and scratching a lot. RC has corn in it & some dogs are allergic to corn. We've switched to Canidae - super premium food. |
Tigger loves it, It improved his dry skin, and improved his coat. He loves the small kibble and hasn't had any bad reactions what so ever. Best of Luck |
I use Royal Canin for my Yorkies and never had problems . |
We just started to change over to Canidae. A good website to visit is http://www.naturapet.com/display.php...z&naturaid=547 It will let you compare! |
I believe Royal Canin is the finest choice for Yorks. Mine does not accept anything else out of dog foods, but loves stealing cat food accross the kitchen. Makes her feel sick though. |
Thanks so much for all the help! I think I will try the Royal Canin first since it is easier to find. We don't have too many specialty places here. And if itchies should occur we will probably try the Canidae next. I like that RC has yorkie specific food. I looked at the ingredients and it actually is different than the other breed specific foods they make. So we will give it a shot. Eleanor and I both thank you! |
I have my puppy on Royal Canin, Science Diet, and Chicken Soup. I am switching from the Science Diet that the breeder had her on. Ingredient wise, Chicken Soup is much better that Royal Canin. And something that is shying me away from royal Canin, is the fact that it contains corn. But I can't decide between the two, what I want to keep her on, so she is getting both.....Just a note, Chicken Soup imported into Canada, does not come from the affected manufacturer. |
I have fed Royal Canine puppy 33 because that is what my puppy was used to when I brought her home from the breeder. I tried to switch to Chicken Soup but she didn't like it. I believe that there are better foods out there than Royal Canin but she seems to be doing great. I have not experienced any of the itching from the corn. Once I switch her to adult food, I will go with either Wellness, Canidae or Innova. The problem is trying to find food with small pieces. Yorkies don't like huge bites! Overall, Royal Canin has been a good choice. |
My little one is on Royal Canine Puppy food... she loves her food!!! Its very interesting that some people have mentioned that this or other food types may make puppies skin itch. Truth is that mine did have an itchy condition, but I never thought that food would be a probable cause. I did go to the vet and get her a hypoallergenic spray and she is doing very very well and still enjoying her Royal Canine Puppy food!!! :bravo: |
Ok, I'm finally gonna ask. Where in the world do you guys find these foods? Canidae, Chicken soup, Innova....? I'm either the blindest person at the store or.... I always find the bad stuff. |

sometimes you find it at feed stores, sometimes you can find it at Petco. You'll never find it at the grocery store. I guarantee it. |
