Crystals in urine? Betty Boop has always urinated a lot, like around 10 times a day, but lately I've noticed when she has missed her pee pad and the urine has dried, it has a crystalline look and feels grainy like a fine salt. I am making an appointment with her vet today. Does this sound like it could be a symptom of crystals? |
I do not have any experience or knowledge about crystals, but I want to send beautiful Betty Boop best wishes for all to be well. |

urinating and doesn't seem to feel bad. |
I pray all is well with Miss Betty Boop. |
I hope Betty Boop is ok. I had to take my Jada in Wednesday morning. She didn't have crystals but she had peed a ton Tuesday and just little spots. Late Tuesday night she had some brown coloring to her pee. I took her in and she has a bladder infection. |
I hope everything goes well at the vet, I have not had this problem before, please let us know how Betty Boop is doing. Wishing Betty Boop well. |
Thanks for your replies and well wishes. I have an appointment to take her in next week. She is acting normal. It's probably just me. I worry over the least little thing when it comes to her. |
It could be normal urinary byproducts. I would have your vet run an urinalysis if you are concerned. Make sure the urine is freshly evaluated, I've had crystals show up in samples simply from urine sitting around and precipitating out of solution. May vets can do this in house, but if it is going to be sent out, I try to have morning appointments. |

Thanks for your reply! I'm taking her to the vet at 11 this morning, along with a urine specimen I collected at 7 this morning. I refrigerated it. This is what I've always been told to do. Just hope it is OK in this instance. I'll try to get a fresher one later in the morning. I'll post the results when I get back home. |
I finally got the results back from the lab where the vet sent her urine. She does not have any sediment or crystals in her urine. The vet thinks her urine is just so concentrated (which is great, he said) that it dries like that. The lab also said she has a low level of white blood cells which means she has a bladder infection so she is on antibiotics (Clavamox) for the next 7 days. He also took an X-ray and she does not have bladder stones. |
Glad things turned out ok for you. |
I am very happy to hear the great news about Betty Boop! Hoping she does well with the antibiotic. I think both of my boys have had Clavamox and it didn't bother either one. Max for sure. |
