Pet Food Recall I had posted about this a while back, but now they have had a second recall....and I know alot of people on here feed this brand: "Just weeks after E. Coli outbreaks at Chipotles across the nation, The Food and Drug Administration is reporting a voluntary recall of a popular chew bones for dogs. In press release from the FDA, Blue Buffalo Company said that their decision to recall the 'Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bone' is being done "with an abundance of caution," noting that there is potential that the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The FDA reports that the product was distributed to nine states beginning on November 19th-- California, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. According to their website, the contamination doesn't just affect the animal consuming the product, it could also affect the person handling the bones : Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products. This is the second recall of a Blue Buffalo product this month, after one of their most popular cat treat was found containing a hazardous chemical. Symptoms your pet may exhibit if they have been infected with Salmonella include decreased appetite, fever, abdominal pain, lethargy and diarrhea. Blue Buffalo Company is encouraging anyone who bought the product to discard it immediately, saying that the place of purchase will refund buyers in full. Better safe than sorry!" |
I see the word salmonella and cringe. Had it once....omg it is truly awful. |
Doesn't Blue Buffalo have lots of these recalls through the years in comparison to most other dog food/treat companies? If so, why buy ANY of their products? |
It is very hard to understand. I guess it's just like some people following people like Jim Jones...they hear what they want to hear. Blue Buffalo spends a huge amount of their money on marketing. The wolf thing and the feed them like family.....they hear what they want to hear. Also, the Dog Food Advisor has people thinking they are vet nutritionists and that they can read a label and know if the food is good or not. NO focus at all on who is putting that food in the bags/cans. |
dog Personally I don't like blue buffalo. My yorkies had real runny stools. I use wellness and it works for them. They like it. My former show poodle breeder recommended it to me. |

Not a Fan of Blue Buffalo, When the dog goes pooh, it has a very distinct smell to it as a few of my friends feed their dogs this food, and all 3 dogs pooh have a very distinct smell, not natural at all almost like a chemical smell! I Feed my dog Wellness, never had an issue or recall, in my opinion it is a very well balanced natural dog food with no food allergy issues like I had with other High Quality Dog Foods. |
