Can I Give Boiled Chicken??? Hello All, my boy is now 1yr and 8 months. He's such a picky eater and will not eat dry or wet food continously. I think he likes variety. I have tried and spent so much money on wellness, merrick, freshpet, wellness air dried etc etc. I really did not want to cook for him but I fell I've tried so many kinds of food that I cannot keep changing. Anyway, I thought of boiling chicken thighs for him which he seems to like but I would like to know what else can I put in it as I don't want to just give him pure protein and nothing else. Also, I know the dog foods have other nutrients in them etc so I am trying to see what else people are doing for those that cook for their babies. Can I add potatoes, carrots, etc? |
If you want to or have to give your dog chicken NEVER give chicken parts there is much to much fat in that, ONLY use boneless chicken cutlets and trim off the fat before you boil it. Chicken and rice has no nutrients and is low in calories. Sorry I cannot offer advise on what nutrients you can use, potatoes and carrots are good, I don't know if these 2 veggies are sufficient, I would think NOT. Hopefully others will be along to advise, suggest what you can add if any. |
I give mine boiled chicken breast or grilled ground chicken. I put a little on top of his kibble & he eats. He will pick out the chicken, but it gets him started eating his food. Oh, & some green beans, a very small can of green beans will last a week, and also the chicken. I either boil a small breast or one chicken tender. |
Be careful the canned beans have no salt in it. |

I am no expert on foods for sure, but I free feed their kibble, which I am consistent with, I do not change them up, I am switching now from puppy to adult but doing so very slowly by mixing the two together. Only a few times in a week I boil them chicken tenders, no seasoning, or I will divide a Wellness Petite Entrée, I will add green beans or peas to their chicken occasionally or feed them as treats. I think home cooking could be a great thing, but I am too scared to do it, I just don't know enough about it to make sure they are getting all they need and I worry I would mess them up or make them picky eaters. Good luck finding something that works :) |
Yes, you can give boiled chicken - but you really must balance the diet for him or there will be health issues. Try balanceit.com. |
