13yr old to use wee pads?? Has anyone trained an older dog to use wee pads? Since my Rex was put on seizure meds he drinks allot more and pees all the time..it is hard getting home in these 2-4 hr intervals..any help? |
You can certainly try this new adjustment for him...he may catch on immediately, it may take him a while to grasp a concept foreign to him.....he may not like it at all and not work with you! You can also consider using belly bands to contain the urine produced by your little man....you just change this belly band (depending on the pad you use inside, how large your pup is, how much he pees at one time, etc) pee pad every 2-8 hours and you dont have to deal with peeing all over your house. |
Thankfully my senior pup who is also 13 was paper trained at a pup and when he got older and can no longer hold it in throughout the night he will use the papers. I don't know how easy it will be to train a pup who has no experience with pad/paper training will be, its worth a try. You are welcome to check out my web site with the instructions that I give all my new owners and how I myself have successfully paper trained all of my pups. www.dawnsyorkies.weebly.com/training-tips |
It won't be easy but there is always the chance he will catch on. Won't be easy, but may be worth a try. When he pees outside, take a pad and rub it on the pee so that the pee scent is on the pad...that can help him make a connection eventually. |
If you find any trick please let me know. I am trying with my two dogs but have not been successful. They only pee on the pad about 10% of the time. The rest of the time they like to tear up the pads even the one in the holder. LOL. They think it is a fun new toy. |
