My Yorkie has too much Calcium? Hi I just signed up, but I need a bit of help. My Yorkshire Terrier, Rolo had Bladder stones last year to the point that he was bleeding lots when he was going to the toilet, he had an operation, etc. and they got back to us with the results a few months ago. (Bad, I know). They told us that he will need food with less Calcium, and to move him from dry food to wet food. He is 7 years old, and has been on dry food all his life (as has his brother, Yorkie). The problem I am facing is the fact that he is barely eating the wet food, and the same is with his brother. The vet told us he can go on dry food, as long as it is very low in calcium... but we are unable to find anything suitable, at all. Does anyone know of any brands, or links to where I can buy online (in the UK please!) which offer low calcium foods? I'm also curious as to what home-made food I can give him, at all? Thank you! |
Are you able to get hills science diet or royal canin? They have a urinary diet (u/d)....I'm not familiar with some of the other brands and wether they have a urinary diet friendly food....but there are many folks here who probably do.... |

With a urinary diet, will this mean that it will definitely have low calcium? Thank you very much! |
Thank you very much! We can get both in the UK, which is great. I'm just curious as to the fact that do the urinary diets have low calcium? Can you point me to what specific product I should be looking for? Cannot seem to find it on either of their websites. |
https://royalcanin.com/products/vet/urinary-health Check out Royal Canin and the multiple varieties of their food for this condition, both canned and dry.... |
What kind of stones? My teddy has calcium oxalate stones. A year and a half ago, he had them removed and I put him on a home cooked diet. He has not had a recurrence of stones (which they say is very unusual). Home cooking is an option. I used the veterinary nutritionist at Petdiets.com. One of the best food for calcium oxalate stones is Royal Canin s/o canned. My dog likes it, but I wanted to home cook. Good luck |
