He does not overeat. None of my dogs have ever over eaten with free feeding, and none of them have ever been over weight. I do live on 3/4 of an acre fenced for them to run together, so they get a lot of exercise. Plus, Mario goes with us everywhere and walks all over every store/place we go.
With free feeding, I would say my almost 9 lb guy eats about 1/4-1/2 total a cup a day plus treats throughout the day. | I free feed my "babies" (the "pets") and that is because it is easier to let them determine how much it takes to satisfy their needs ....I have ONE that is over weight.....she is my little piggy, and I have to watch her food intake, but the rest do well with that system....
The breeders are a whole different thing. Each one has their diet calculated and they are weighed weekly, to make sure we are on track....I have a really bad tendency to OVER feed....I have this thing about hating to see anything looking hungry!!.......so I have to weigh and measure and that keeps ME from over feeding my babies.....so amounts vary from month to month, season to season, according to how much exercise THEY are expending....and then, when I am going to breed a pair, they go on special diets, and formulas and amounts have to be adjusted. |
