Questions about my Yorkie. Q: Our Molly is about 16-17 weeks old and weighs just a tiny bit under 5 lbs. (In between 4 & 5 on the scale) And she seems to be gaining weight quite quickly. Is that alright for her to weigh that much at that age? Q: Her parents were both 6 lbs. so will she be about the same? Q: Her ears are still floppy and haven't perked up yet. Is that okay? Q: At what age are yorkies done growing, and at what age do their hair change colors? Thanks! |
shave the ears you have to shave those ears. my yorkies ears don't stand and they are adults. i never knew to shave them and now it's to late for me. it's not to late for you though. as far as the weight, they can outgrow their parents. :) |

What happends if you don't shave the ears? |
ears my dogs ears never will stand because i didn't shave them. they might not ever stand if you don't shave them. the cartlidge in their ears are soft and the hair weighs them down. i love my dogs anyway but i wish their ears stood. it's ok though because you will love them anyway :) |

Aww, my maltese puppy I am getting is named Molly! I just had our Yorkie at the vet on Friday, and she weighed in a 2.5 pounds, and she is 17 weeks old. She's very tiny though. I think the rule of thumb is double their 3 months weight = full grown weight. |
If you decide not to shave your puppies ears and leave them floppy, they will need some extra care. When the ears fall over they tend to trap moisture inside making them prone to infections, so regular cleaning is necessary and you should take extra care to keep them dry! |
My Yorkie is 15 weeks old and 1.5 kg. I think that is just over 3lbs.I am hoping she will be over 6lbs when grown. Her ears have always stood up,i haven't had to do anything. Her coat has been changing colour for about 4 weeks now and her head is quite blond! |
Q: Our Molly is about 16-17 weeks old and weighs just a tiny bit under 5 lbs. (In between 4 & 5 on the scale) And she seems to be gaining weight quite quickly. Is that alright for her to weigh that much at that age? She's a puppy afterall, she's suppose to gain weight quickly. My bunjee is going on nearly 5 months now and weighs 5.5 lbs the last time i weighed him last week. He's pretty much gained .2 to .3 lbs per week every week since i got him at 8 weeks old. Q: Her parents were both 6 lbs. so will she be about the same? Generally, you can estimate your puppy's full grown weight based on her parents' weights. Another way is to double her 12 week weight. But it's not guaranteed. What she eats, how much she eats, how much exercise she gets, and other genetic factors can come into play. Big parents can have tiny babies, and vice versa. But just remember, 6, 7, 8, 9, or even 10 lbs is still really small. Q: Her ears are still floppy and haven't perked up yet. Is that okay? Some puppies have naturally floppy ears, some will stand on their own. You can help the ears stand by shaving the hair off the ears and taping the ears. It's fine if it stays floppy. Bunjee's ears are still floppy. I just have to be more conscience about keeping his ears clean. Q: At what age are yorkies done growing, and at what age do their hair change colors? I think they reach their adult size anywhere from a year to two years. My puppy's hair around his head is starting to turn lighter, i can tell by the roots, but his body is still dark. |
