New to this, my Yorkie 8 mos eats only eggs and baby food, I need help My 8 month old Yorkie has had a rough start. She almost died twice, first time accidentally overdosed by Vet ER after being treated for a sprained ankle, she barely made it after being in the hospital for 5 days. Then she had liver failure, again in the hospital for 4 days. She wouldnt eat so my vet put her on chix and rice, she ate that at first then refused. I was told an egg and baby food (chix and sweet potatos no garlic or onion powder). She then refused to eat the chix and sweet potato but would and is still eating chix and apples. So on a daily she will not touch her dog food (Royal Canin) so she eats a scrambled egg for breakfast and then lunch one chix and apples and dinner one chix and apples. Each baby food is only 90 calories. I dont know what to do she is so picky, any suggestions? |

Why did she have "liver failure" - what happened? Also, has she been checked for liver shunt? If you're going to home cook for her long term, you need an actual recipe so she is getting what she needs nutritionally. I'd use balanceit.com or pet diets ASAP. |
We dont know why she had liver failure but she does not have a shunt. Her liver is fine now. I think it is from when they overdosed her, she was dying and they told me she wouldnt make it through the night, she did but then 2 weeks later she got super sick so I rushed her in to find out her liver was failing but they said it had nothing to do with the narcatic they gave her (they gave her 10X the dose she was suppose to recieve). I was just thankful she was alive and now is fine but I worry about her diet and how picky she is. I know she is not getting everything she needs. She is suppose to get spayed at the end of this month and Im terrified. |

The place where they overdosed my Stella was the Vet Hospital not my Vet office, it was a Saturday night when she jumped off my couch and hurt her leg. My Vet was very upset about the situation that happened, it was horrible. They took full responsibility and appolagized but that doesnt take away the damaged that was possibly caused. |
Does your reg. vet know about the liver issue. Blood work should be done before surgery to ensure the liver can filter the anesthesia, this should be done several days before the surgery. Check with the vet to see if this blood work was taken since you were working with an ER clinic and your vet. Talk to your vet about your pups eating habits, a good vet will not spay a dog if she is not in good health. |
If she is eating baby food and eggs, perhaps she just likes soft food. Have you tried a good quality canned food to see if she responds to it? |
