dry tongue turns black / cracked Hello all. Our tea cup yorkie had her bad teeth removed, since then her tongue hangs out. Our vet has us using extra virgin olive oil and mouth rinses to minimize and try to heal the changing tongue color to black and its cracking. This helps a little by healing it from time to time, but not yet a problem solver. Has anyone had this happen and or know of a cure? :aimeeyork |
I have a couple of seniors that have had full mouth extractions, and their little adorable tongues stick out the side of their mouths......thank God, while their little tongues dry out, they have not turned black!!!! I bought some of that "oral saliva" that people use that have issues with dry mouth secondary to cancer treatments or oral cancers......must work great as I dont have black tongues and their little tongues, while that part sticking out from their mouth is dry, it is not black and cracking. |

If you have a dog breed that should have a pink tongue, take him to a vet if it is black. "Black tongue" occurs due to ulceration or inflammation in the mouth along with blood-stained drooling saliva. The dog's breath also turns foul. Is the dog on antibiotics? In humans, a yeast infection of the tongue can appear black ie thrush. |
