Need help with dog with Allergy's My poor Zoey has food allergies. She is 10 months old and is currently eating Adult Orijen but it is making her so itchy. I was wondering what dog food should I try for her? I wish I could make homemade meals for her but I just can't commit to that. Thank you in advance for the help! |
Food allergies are extremely rare, and almost never seen in adults - let alone puppies who don't really have allergies yet. Are you sure it's the food itself and not something else? Did the itching start just after the food? If you want to switch foods, I'd choose a different protein and main carb source in the new food. Maybe try Natures Logic Venison...can get on Amazon. |
what is she allergic to, Try Wellness Core, or Blue Basics they are designed for these kind of dogs |
If you plan on sticking with Orijen, the sister brand, Acana, has a "single protein" line of food so you can try to determine what your dog may be allergic to. It comes in duck, lamb, or pork. My Scottie rotates between duck and lamb because I found out he doesn't do well with fish or chicken, and many dog foods have fish meal and chicken meal in the ingredients. Have you eliminated the chance Zoey may have fleas? If the skin is itchy because of skin problems or dryness, maybe consider feeding a little bit of organic unrefined coconut oil. Many articles have been written on how it helps clear up skin problems for dogs. I let my dog lick the oil off my fingers in very small amounts - it's solid white until it touches your skin, then it melts. Good luck! |
