Vegan Kibble for Protein Restricted Yorkie? Can anyone please recommend a vegan kibble for Jenna? She has reactions to any meat protein since 2013 and can only have vegan foods. Her vet has finally concluded that DVP Natural Balance may be causing digestive problems for her now after a bad bout of colitis a few weeks ago and continuing issues that we are currently addressing. I've looked at Royal Canin Vegan (needs a script) and Halo. Other foods on the market either won't ship to where I am or don't look like they have much substance to them. Has anyone had any experience with these two and would you recommend them? Many thanks in advance for reading and all replies. :) |

Have you considered V-Dog ?. http://v-dog.com/products/v-dog-kibble |
I wish I knew of more, but I don't. You might also try calling a more upscale pet food store for their options too. I think RC or Purina also makes a 'scrip food that is Hydrolyzed Protein, don't they...? |

I did take a look at their website, and they looked the most promising, but sometimes when companies say they will only ship to the continental US they exclude Alaska. I see they have an option for Canada, so I am hopeful. I've fired off an email to them to see if they would consider shipping here. Have you tried their food or know someone who did? I'd love to hear of personal experiences with it. :) Thank you so much for your suggestion. :) |

We have livestock feed stores here that carry some dogs foods, usually ones for folks with lots of sled dogs, but the only big chain we have is Petco. Can you suggest which stores I should look into? We did try her on hydrolyzed protein foods, unfortunately they only made her worse. It was determined by my vet at that point that we keep Jenna entirely meat free. :( She can't even have meat flavorings in her medicines. Thank you for your advice. I was hoping I wasn't the only one seeing that there were so few options. It's really quite discouraging. |

Yes, we did try the SD hydrolyzed protein foods, more than one in fact. It's a shame it wasn't that simple for Jenna. :( I would never have believed dogs get IBS but now I am wondering if that is what she has? I know I do and even the least amount of a trigger food sets me off. We'll know more what is going on with her tomorrow when her test results from A&M come back. Do all dogs with gut issues need b shots? I wonder if I should ask my vet about that. I'd feel terrible if she had to start getting them though, she hates the vet's and I am rubbish with needles. :( Thank you very much for your reply. :) |

Yes definitely check out the Purina HA .We had a great experience with Purina RX diet . A few years ago our Airedale got very sick from eating gravel and almost died . He could not even eat with getting horrendous digestive issues . Our vet prescribed Purina EN and wow it really saved him . He was on it for about a year then he went back to regular kibble and was fine .. |

Well, still haven't heard anything from my vet. I called Friday and he wasn't in and his notes say he's not phoning till Tuesday. :( Very frustrating. |

Thank you , yes it was quite terrifying . His whole intestines were impacted . He was in the Emergency Vet for two days . He was only 3 months old when this happened . The worst part is we had no idea he was slurping up the gravel on his walks , we thought he was just sniffing the ground . Oh , I am sorry you can't get the V-Dog . I hope you can find something .. |
