I was not wrong it was an opinion with science to back it up just like yours! Just because it is different then yours does not mean it's wrong! I am not an idiot! It doesn't take a rocket sciencetist to see there gone just like almost everyone else who cared and tried to make a difference but were unfairly and unjustly treated!

I agree that it's possible to feed a dog a vegetarian diet and have it be healthy. It's a lot easier if you're using a commercial food that has good quality control and has already been proven to meet the nutritional needs of a dog (whether it be puppy or adult) by the AAFCO. If I were home cooking from scratch, I'd definitely consult a veterinary nutritionist to make sure the diet is balanced, because I don't have any experience feeding a home cooked diet. The balanceit.com website is a good place to start, as is Dr. Remillard's website.

Eggs and milk protein are fairly well balanced sources of protein, so if the vegetarian diet allows it, these would make it a lot easier. I've read that it's possible to feed a completely vegan diet, but my understanding is that it's more difficult because you have to balance the sources of plant proteins more carefully to provide all of the required amino acids in the proper amounts.

Legumes are another good source. I fed a dog for five years on chick pea, sweet potatoes, and fish oil! She stopped tolerating fish oil, we added 1 egg white and she couldn't tolerate it. Out of desperation and not being into calamari or kangaroo, I threw chicken at her. Go figure, it's been 9 mos and chicken is holding. She's 15, I only need another year or so of feeding her before she...well... Goes buh bye. Anyway, she looked better on the vegetarian diet and had less allergy symptoms. Many things to balance in one little terribly bred puppy mill mess of a dog.

All I can say in response to your post is that people post where they wish. There are no rules that say a person must post here, or must post there. I don't post a lot about bad breeding...only when I feel I can make a difference OR feel I have something to add. I don't post a lot about food because it simply is not my forte so to speak. Most of my posts are in sick and injured because I feel I have much to offer there...but I also don't respond to all of those threads because it may be a topic that someone else knows more about.

I don't think anyone called you or anyone else an idiot here. What I will say is that I didn't even look at your googled links because Ellen Degeneres is simply not someone I would look to for advice on what to feed my pups...but I don't look to DFA either. So there you have it...one thing I agree with that you posted and one I did not. Does not mean I think you are an idiot.

IF you were talking about me regarding bad breeding threads, you may find you feel you are making a difference there. I personally don't do what you do because I liken it to batting my head against a wall. Again, I post only where I feel I will be effective. Hopefully you didn't mean me, but if you did, oh well. I live bad breeding every single day of my life and do my level best to make a difference when and where I can.:)

It is wrong!! I didn't say you were an idiot, just that you're not correct about vegetarian diets for dogs. if Jodi and lynzy wanted to take a break from YT, they did so for their own reasons. Of maybe they've just been too busy to come around. Jodi is extremely busy working on home projects. The woman is just getting a breather after three years of caring for her elderly mom with dementia, maybe she is catching up on stuff. Just saying.

Taylor, you've crossed a line here. Nothing "bit me in the butt" and never has. Accidents happen and dogs have sensitivities. Barney is a very elderly dog with some underlying heart and tracheal issues that predisposed him to the mode of action of the collar's ingredient. Nothing more and nothing less. I did what I needed to do to address the problem starting with keeping my cool, being unemotional as my dog was extremely sedate and lethargic and experiencing respiratory distress. I then drove at a high speed keeping us as safe as I could but still aimed with getting Barney to the nearest 24/7 hospital with boarded criticalists overseeing his care. I opted to keep him overnight in the hospital for his best interest on the advice of my trusted vet who was on email with me as this unfolded. I took my baby home the next day, and he will live to see his 15th birthday because of my actions and the actions of my vet. I hope if you find yourself in an emergency situation, you can do what needs to be done.too.

So nothing bit me in the butt. In fact, he recovered completely within 48 hours. The other three dogs also had the collars placed without incident. The emergency room staff of two major area hospitals had not experienced this with this very widely used product. My Barney was a statistic. Nothing bit him or me in the butt.

Now let's talk about you and this absolutely inappropriate and aggressive post that you've directed at me. I would never have said anything to you about your care of your dog, and quite frankly, I think this low blow is nothing short of appalling and offensive.

Apologies are not wanted or needed here, as I don't think I could honestly accept or move on from her comments. I could say a lot in retaliation but I will be above this. I suppose Taylor never has never had an emergency or even the gumption to come back and share the experience to help others know what to do when time is of the essence. Maybe I'm just unlukcy?? I don't know. When I look here on YT, there are hundreds of similar stories about dog emergencies and sadly not everyone knows what to do. I'm not sure why Taylor thinks that an accidental, unpredictable, uncommon response to a medication that has been around for around 30 years with a solid safety record "bit me in the butt" -- my dog is ancient! He's OLDER THAN DIRT!!

I know I, for one, was grateful you shared that scary story bc it could happen to any one of us. Sharing the story could save another life. I think in reading your story, we were all just dang *grateful* for the positive outcome you did have...thank God it wasn't worse. Your actions saved his life!

Well, I've scoured studies today and I have seen nothing which supports or challenges a veggie diet for dogs. Either my resources are limited or there is very limited research in this area. However, I have seen a LOT of studies which states that corn and barley is actually good for dogs and the meat ingredients in commercial dog food is thought to contribute to cancer as known carcinogens. I guess that is a topic for another thread...


So, OP, anyway..would like to thank you for opening up an avenue I had not considered past my views re: dogs as meat/plant eaters. It is unlikely that I will change Teddy's diet to a veggie diet only but I am now more aware of some of the issues re: commercial dog foods, etc.

Cathy I am sorry I struck out at you but you hurt my feelings telling me my opinion was wrong multiple times. It's very hurtful and made me feel like an idiot and I feel like you take little hits at me when you can and I have tried to just ignore it and let it go but this was the straw that broke the camels back.
