New owner: irregular pooping? So I recently adopted a Yorkie I've had him for almost two weeks now and besides the first day he's been pooping outside during his morning walk and at night during his nightly walk. Now he's being fed 1/4 of a cup of dry food twice a day since he needs to lose weight. He has missed a few nightly poops but always goes in the morning. He usually goes in about 20-30 min but today we were out for an hour and nothing. Is this normal? I've never had a Yorkie before so any advice would help! |
Perfectly normal with a change in food, especially a change in amount of food. |

Any changes to diet are likely to bring on changes in the poop. If it persists or if it looks like they are straining to go, then it is something to worry more about. |
Pooped tonight He pooped tonight but it wasn't a lot we'll see how he does tomorrow. He been on his new food completely for maybe about 4 or 5 days? Still normal? He's been getting the 1/4 twice a day since we got him though. What signs should I look for for straining? He seems perfectly normal no pain or anything |

Higher protein foods tend to result in smaller poops, unless overfed. |
