Rabies shot Just would like your opinions?? Lexi had her rabies shot this morning and the Vet did give her 2 Benadryl shots before the shot? My hubby brought her so I don't have all the details! Anyways, she is breathing heavy and we were told this Is normal and she should be better tomorrow ? She has no swelling or rash so just wondered if anyone has had experience with this? Thanks so much for your time and thoughts!! She's are little girl and we are worried sick 😔 |
Have you called the vet? Heavy breathing doesn't sound normal to me. I don't understand the two benadryl shots? ZoE had her rabies shot about six weeks ago. She got one dose of metacam before her rabies shot, as she had a large lump from her last rabies shot, three years ago, that took weeks to go down. |
Two benadryl injections? Are you sure that was what it was? Call the vet and ask what they gave her. If her breathing gets worse, I would not be calling...>I would drive her to the nearest vet to be examined!! |
I agree. . .if my pup is having problems breathing I would be in the car going to the vet. |

It is wierd to give two Benedryl shots two . .i would ask what they actually gave Lexi |
Cooper got his rabies shot and they didn't give him any benadryl shots! He was fine afterwards! |

Hi girls, thanks so very much for all your thoughts and concerns!! Sorry I didn't post last night it was a long night! We did call the vet about 15 times lol it seemed!! He is wonderful and assured us Lexi was ok! Told us we could bring her in just to be in the safe side so we had her checked again! He truly is a wonderful and caring and called again this morning to check on her! It was just one shot of Benadryl but in two different locations not sure on why though? So worried about her just didn't ask? Needless to say I didn't sleep so well making sure she was breathing all night poor baby! She looks good this morning and breathing normal daddy is home with her!! She even rolled over this morning for a little tummy rub so that is a really good sign❤️❤️❤️ Thanks again so much you all are the best xo |

Thought I would add my 2 cents here. As my Hanna has gotten older she developed a bad reaction to the rabies shot at about 12 years old. Than she would also get benydryl shots to help when she was 13 and again at 14. But the last was 14 and there was no way to control the reaction as it had gotten so much worse. Her breathing was extremely heavy, rubbing up against furniture. Pacing sitting pacing. Every surface began to turn red and even her mouth showed signs of swelling. So the vet agreed that would be her last rabies shot and she hasn't had another one since. Just be aware this may be worse next time. Don't leave the office for an hour after the shot as the reaction will no doubt kick in by than. |
