Warning, authority brand dog treats
 
6abc just did a story about dogs dying from organ failure after eating authority treats.
One was chicken teething rings from China and the other was chicken jerkey from Thailand.

This is the first I've heard about the teething rings being a problem.

More chicken from China causing problems, I hope anyone would avoid using food sources made in China, they just don't seem to have the necessary quality control. I'll add Thailand to my list of countries. They may be packaged in this country, but if they are using ingredients from other sources I would be concerned.

I've stopped giving Lola all dog treats, now she gets meat, veggies, or gerber puffs. I'm looking into switching her to homecooked food using balance it too.

I'll still giver her whimzees alligators to chew though, they're made in Holland and don't contain meat so it should be ok.

A lot of the pet stores stopped carrying chicken jerky treats from Chine because of the illnesses and deaths of dogs associated with them. Consumers are now buying chicken jerky that states "made in US" thinking they're safe.
These treats are also injuring and in some cases killing dogs. The theory is even though they claim to be made in the US some of the ingredients *may* have been imported from China. But then some of the treats are claiming they are made with no ingredients from outside of the US. The recommendation is to just not buy any of these until the problem is resolved.

Dr. Urs Giger, director of the Metabolic Genetics Screening Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, said his laboratory has diagnosed recent cases of acquired Fanconi disease in dogs that ate treats that ostensibly were not made in China or with ingredients from China.

The first dog the link mentioned died after eating a chicken teething ring, not jerky. This is the first I've heard of a chicken teething ring being a problem.

I've stopped buying dog treats period, but I'm sure many wouldn't think the teething ring was dangerous.

This is the teething ring the first dog ate, I've seen similar treats (different brand) recommended on here.

The front of the bag says made in the USA, the Thailand bit is in small print on the back.

So sorry to read this, I know the ones ShowGirlLola posted were processed here , but the chicken was imported. This is the first I've heard of some that were taken from chicken raised in the USA. This is sad news because chicken jerky does seem like on the of the healthier snacks. It's probably safer to make your own or give other safe human foods. I give some beef liver dried treats and it's really easy to make them. I imagine chicken would be easy to make too.

In the first link I see the yorkie was given Spot Farms “all-natural chicken strips," but the illness seems to be a condition called Fanconi syndrome which effects the kidneys. It just isn't worth the risk to buy any of these treats made with dried chicken, it just to dangerous since no one has been able to pin point the exact problem.

I'm confused, so was he chicken made in the USA blamed or not? Or are they just not sure? I've got a bad virus and it's hard for me to think today!

The teething ring isn't dried chicken, it's chicken mixed with flour and glycerin to make a chewy treat.

I consider myself more informed than most pet smart shoppers and these wouldn't have raised a red flag to me until I saw Thailand on the back.
Most just see made in the usa on the front and assume it's ok.

Actually Thailand wouldn't have raised a red flag, they're supposed to have very high standards and many great brands are produced there like Weruva

Yeah, I have a friend from Thailand and I've always considered their country to have higher standards then us.

I'm confused too that was why I showed the two links. In one it states their theory is even though the package states "made in US" *some* of the ingredients *may* have been sourced through a third party from sources outside of the US. The other link states none of the ingredients came from outside of the U. This leaves me thinking they still have no clue why this is happening but it is, so don't purchase any chicken treats to be safe....confusing isn't it.. :)
