I used The Honest Kitchen Kindly, all you need to do is add the protein, all the vitamins & minerals are in there. They have different formulations & complete diets. I chose this so I can add my own protein (raw or cooked) & it's grain & potato free. Just my preference & Turbo can't have certain proteins due to food intolerance, so this is a great option for us. Sometimes I use ground turkey, Turbo gets lamb. They also love the unsalted sardines from TJ's....packed w/omega 3's.:thumbup:

They :love:'d it! I really adore watching them enjoy their food...devouring it & licking the bowl clean. I only feed them this once in awhile, they mainly eat premade raw diet by Primal & occasionally Stella & Chewy's.

Just wanted to share that there are easy options to Home cooking.:)

Wonderful post, I'm sure many people didn't know about this option. Salmon sounds like such a healthy protein source too.

Great ! Thanks for the info !. . We love Trader Joes ! How is the Sardines packaged ? I would love to get Galen some. I love to give Galen fish. . . Good for his skin and coat !

This is an awesome option, it really is. I will say, my dogs freakin' LOVE fish...salmon, tilapia, cod, sole...any whitefish at all. They devour it. HK has some nice options.

Yes, it is. Turbo is sensitive to white fish, so sardines & salmon are great options for him.

I think your kitties will love it too! I give them the whole sardine, the bones are soft so there's no sharp fish bones to worry about.

Mine love fish too. I also buy the dried pollack, they sell them @ Korean markets (huge bag)...they get them as treats.

Any left overs can be refrigerated for up to 2-3 days, you can freeze it too.

I love the idea that this can be stored in the pantry until you rehydrate it, another great option!

I used to give HK but during the rehydrating time Uni would bark NON stop! She loved it! I will tell MIL about this. She used to help me feed Uni this. Her new yorkie doesn't eat kibble bc her former owners only gave her people food. So far she only eats chicken. This is perfect to put in w the chicken!

Hmmm interesting! I always think I want to homecook but then don't because I'm too lazy. LOL. This could be an easy way to do it more often... I've seen chicken in a can like that as well, can't be any easier! lol. I am just not sure if he would like THK mix... I had a sample of one of their other formulas before and he just looked at it, like, ew. It was all parsley looking though.

Thank you for posting this! My pups are on Fromm right now with Stella and Chewy's as a topper. Veau can do without the Fromm and usually picks over it to eat the SC. I've been having a problem with the bones in SC poking the ish out of me when I crumble it for them. :(. Are there alot of bones in these formulas? I'm thinking I won't have to crumble it like the freeze dried SC. It'll be a plus to have everyone on the same food and the site recommended the chicken formula for puppies/all life stages.

Homecooking is so easy. You can cook alot at once. This post makes it easier. When food actually looks like food it has to be healthier

I ran into problems w/S&C Pheasant freeze dried....almost poked my finger from the sharp bones. It had lots of visible bones in there of all shapes & sizes. I emailed the rep & talked to the store owner (whom also feeds raw) & they both assured me that they'll be fine, it won't hurt them. But the store owner said it's not good for us, we might get stabbed!

I was hesitant @ 1st but decided to give it to Mimi anyway. I did remove the sharp looking bones but left the rest in there...she did fine. I personally am not comfortable w/sharp bones, I do not think it's safe. Since then, I have not purchased another Pheasant formula by S&C. That's the only one I had problems with. Hopefully it's been resolved...

I ordered SC Surf &Turf recently(maybe beginning of April?), and it had bones. They were little, but nonetheless I'd rather not injure myself feeding my yorkies if I can avoid it. I'm deciding between Primal and THK at this point and I'll probably slowly progress to feeding home cooked raw. I see THK has it where I can order a 1 oz sample size which I love! On THK's site it gives a guesstimate on how long a certain amount of food should last(i love that too!). How long will a package of Primal last those with 2(+) yorkies?

Yes, the 1 oz sample sizes are great to try...if you have a store that carries THK near you, you can ask for a sample.

There's 48 1 oz nuggets in a 3# bag of Primal. The recommended amount to feed for a 5# dog is 3 nuggets a day. So not very long loll. Momo is almost 5#'s & he eats 4 nuggets a day to maintain his weight...he's very active, always on the move. If Princess (who weighs the same) ate the same amount, she'll gain weight...it's so not fair for us girls!:p

Primal does have the frequent buyer program. Buy 12, get 1 free.
