my baby is coughing
 
Lately when we play with sparkle she starts to cough like She has something in her throat. She does this maybe twice in a row. She DOESN't make the honking sound and it usually occurs when were outside. When she was vet checked she had a clean bill of health. I've looked in yorkietalk and found really old posts but nobody knew (or found out) what it was, anybody ever experienced this? Does anyone know what this is?

My chihuahua does this when he gets reflux in his throat. Maybe read this thread and see if there is anything that resonates...? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...wallowing.html

She could have environmental allergies. The northeast is making us all cough - dogs and people! All the cedar and birch pollens are at all time highs. Maybe your vet can suggest a dosage of claritin to try? If it continues, I might look further into it (reflux, Collapsing trachea, etc)

Thanks for your response. When I took her to the vet they ran cbc, fecal testing and urinalysis. She has never vomited. She doesn't have any issues eating it drinking and it only occurs when she's running or playing. I feed dry dog food and sometimes she gets apple slices, baby carrots or plain baked skinned chicken (one) i will look into getting an endoscopy done for her. I have gerd so I know it hurts when unmanaged and I don't want my baby in any pain.

Thanks hun. I try to keep my lawn clean but my neighbors have yards full of weeds do it could be. Im hoping it isn't serious

I sent you a message but is this the noise he makes like the Chi in the video. My dog has made that noise since I brought him home at 4 months and he is now 1. Sometimes when running, or playing with his toys. Two different vets where not concerned. Said probably a sensitive trachea or acid reflux

Sounds like she gets some great vet care, that's awesome.

Some dogs who have reflux will never, ever vomit - they will just cough, swallow hard etcetera. If she does have it, luckily the treatment is easy -- just Pepcid once a day.

That's good to know (about the pepcid) I don't want to have her on iv food etc I'm hoping she's just extremely hyper lol is that a diagnosis:D

So far today it's happened once she "hacked".twice after running laps in the yard

That is when my puppy started to do it. He will run laps and stop and hack hack. Sometimes one quick hack and others times 3 quick hacks. In the summer he did it a few times a day. In the winter every few weeks. I am still trying to figure it out because I have only had him for 9 months now. No rhyme or reason. Sometimes when running, Sometimes when chewing his toys or sometimes when just walking across the room but mostly when playing.

I'm not sure. I made a vet appointment hopefully that is a step in finding the issue. This little one is gonna give her mommy a stress attack.

Oh I'm sure you do keep the yard clean. I meant that since the trees are all budding now, there are allergens in the air and our dogs can breathe it in. So they can have coughing from what they are breathing, even if the ground is neat and clean. Best wishes.

Oh ok I see... I try to keep my yard free of things she can get but she always find something maybe she put something in her mouth?
